Time to come together

I don't think the point is for all fans to unite as Mac supporters or Mac haters. The point is to unite as Cyclones. Like him or not, G-Mac is going to be the coach next year. If you root for the MBB team, and hope they do well, it doesn't necessarily mean that you love Mac and want him around forever. It just means that you love your team, and want them to succeed regardless of who is at the helm.
+1 Agreed.

Exactly...
Why make this about GMac?
I want him to suceed, not because of who he is, but who represents (ISU).
If he doesn't none of us suceed as a fan base.

Why not try and let him do his job, and root for our team??
Yes, i know, year 5....but, still... our Cyclones..

YES!!!!

I'm in. It may not mean that I become a robot and never voice my opinion...just that I will get behind these players and this program. I'm a Cyclone...it's what I do. Frankly, abandoning the program and players is what hawks do...seriously, I'll never act like they do.

GMAC has become one of the....if not THE most polarizing figure in ISU history. It's a close call with LE. JP isn't helping in this department with his blatant double standard either. And this thread is exactly the result they were looking for when they hired Jeff. He is here to sell hope, change, and more important......tickets. And if it works.....great. However....just as Houston found out when they actually hired one of their legends in Clyde "the glide" Drexler to the HEAD coaching position...the good ol days give you only so much currency with the restless natives. Winning is what counts. And next year at this time if our record isn't any better....all the 1960's, warm and fuzzy "if you can't be with the one you love..love the one your with"...being one with Neptune's bossom, peace be with you good vibes won't mean a thing.

Which is amazing because LE actually won...McD--idk how anyone can logically support him anymore. I'm torn, because if we play well next year (in relative terms), it may mean a few more years of crap after that...but if we don't, maybe we'll have new hope in a new coach. sigh.

Live it, learn it...everybody.

Go Cyclones!

I can't root against Iowa State, even if the coach sucks and I would like a change. So, unlike cyclonenum1, I will be cheering them on, because right, wrong, or indifferent, it is what it is.

The hire of Nurse at least has some integrity - Gmac and Nurse played together, and at least Gmac knows how Nurse ticks, and that they can complement each other.
The hire of Grayer, however, has me shaking my head. What has Grayer done to qualify himself for such a position? His coaching experience is practically nil. Signing photos and posters is not going to win us any games.
It is a blatant PR move, one designed to distract the fan base from the dismal state of the program and instead diverts their attention to the "next shiny object."

Post of the day!!! Can we get this man a chicken dinner coupon? He's the winner!

I just hope too much wasnt given to nurse to get him to come into this situation. If he managed to get a nice sized buyout on his contract, itll only compound things when we end up needing to fire Mac...

100% Agree

So tell me, what does "unite as Cyclones" mean anyway? What is the fan base not doing that we should? I mean, the only time the fan base "comes together" is as spectators as ISU sports events.
Our chief benefit to the athletic department is as a customer: buying tickets, concesssions, merchandise, and NCC membership.
If I do all those things (which I do), I am very benefical to JP, even while hoping Gmac is fired. Much more beneficial than another fan, who may love Gmac, but who doesn't write as many checks.
Again, how does "unite as Cyclones" manifest itself? I'm confused.

Hell, id say the easiest way for the fanbase to 'unite' re: the gmac issue would be for the 30% who dont support his firing to jump over to the 70% who do..

The post you quoted pretty specifically says that you don't have to love GMac to be a Cyclone fan and be "united," so I'm confused at how you can be confused... You're kind of just saying the same thing he did.

Unite by accepting that G-Mac is going to be coaching Iowa State next year. Unite by stopping the bickering over the same tired points day in and day out. Unite meaning, giving the rhetoric a rest.
Unite by cheering for Iowa State, not because you like the coach, but because you love ISU.
Do any of these things.

But the "take my ball and go home" attitude that is displayed by some who are bitter because JP didn't fire GMac like they hoped, and are now saying they will root for ISU to lose is pathetic. If you don't want to buy tickets, fine. If you want to send JP an email, fine. But rooting against the Clones in any capacity is deplorable.

The problem is, the implication with these 'come together' posts is always just 'shut up and like it' from the gmac fans.

Many of these saying we need to 'come together' and stop talking about how bad GMac has been, are the same ones who during the season said 'we need to wait til the season is over, before we talk about what to do with GMac', and then before the season is over, when GMac has that press conference, the message then becomes 'its decided, shut up and get behind GMac'. In many of these people's minds there was no acceptable time to discuss GMac's future at ISU.

I could never root for ISU to lose, that doesnt mean i'm going to put my resources behind a failed investment (GMac). I'd much rather put my time and $ towards more productive, enjoyable things.
