Word out of Omaha that the Ricketts family have sold TD Ameritrade for $26 billion dollars (stock trade) to Charles Schwab. Maybe now they can quit claiming poverty and invest some money in the team and improve facilities, and stop asking Chicago for money. Upper management in Omaha will be looking for jobs, as movement to Westlake Texas was also announced.

Yes, let alone the incredible renovations that have taken place the past 5 years. But lets not let that get in the way of this man's outrage

I get that the Ricketts family isn't necessarily a bunch of angels, but still...they've put plenty of money into that franchise.

Any word on what they'll do with that fancy green building in West O that they just built less than 10 years ago?

File under one of the most idiotic posts I've read recently. Cubs open last season with the #2 highest payroll in baseball, Ricketts are investing a small fortune in renovating Wrigley and re-developing the surrounding area, Cubs have one of the largest baseball Ops budgets in the game (including a ton of recent hires) and on top of that they are finally getting into a new TV deal after the completion of their old deal that abysmally undervalued what they could have been making.

Once new TV money is kicking in and with Wrigley renovations complete, the baseball budget will grow even further on top the already top 5 in MLB level. Ricketts family catches a lot of heat, but unfairly so a lot of the time in my opinion. They are investing heavily in the team/org.

The entire Wrigley area, experience, and team are better under the Ricketts family.
Was the old Wrigley area charming? Yes. Was it severely outdated and dumpy? Yes.

Didn't owners try to get money from Chicago for the renovations to Wrigley? Just because you throw money at over-rated players, doesn't mean you can't eat their salaries and get pitching and everyday players that are worth the money.

No, the Ricketts self funded the renovations and it’s well over $500 million last reported. And that’s just Wrigley, not the other two buildings they put up. They are getting some tax breaks however as Wrigley is a national landmark. Fenway Park got the same tax breaks

The Ricketts may be rich ********, but they’ve done the Cubs right so far.

How much, or what percent, did the Ricketts own of TD Ameritrade?

Also, if its stadium renovations you're talking about, the number one rule of rich people is to always use other peoples money, or as much as you can, for your benefit.

The city of Chicago was anything but cooperative with renovations and getting more night games. Not only have the Ricketts spent a sh!t ton of money and done an amazing job updating the whole organization, they have put up with a lot of sh!t other owners dont have to deal with.
