Time for KXNO to cut ties with the Register

Long overdue anyway. KXNO has talented and fun people with plenty of Connections and the ability to bring more talented people and fun people in.

KXNO is fun. The Register is not fun. I don’t know what the contractual obligations are or the amount of money that changes hands between the two entities but it’s over. KXNO is a content creator, the Register is a problem.

Drop them like AB/InBev dropped Carson King. It’s ruining the stations reputation.

I enjoy the additional content the Register sport's reporters bring to the table. Sorry if you disagree. They have larger budgets and more access then what KXNO could possible budget for to cover.

That said, I won't be against them communicating a short hiatus up and until the Register does a full retreat from the Carson thing.

What hard hitting stuff does the Register sports dept provide that CF can’t provide?

A caller on KXNO this morning called out how hypocritical the DMR is and how they just swept Tommy Birch's little "solicitation" under the rug... Heather's tone got super defensive because she is friends with Birch but I was surprised she kept herself in check.

With that being said that one moment didn't define Tommy and this sure as hell doesn't define Carson.

Haven't seen it discussed much but this is a real blow to the Register Hawkeye beat writers because they just switched Hawkeye Report to subscription based content. Say what you want about Hawkeye fans but Iowans are loyal as sh** and they will be dumping subscriptions left and right.

I think the thing with Tommy and other news people who have the issues is the hypocrisy. Tommy made a mistake (one that isn’t exactly totally taboo) and he has moved on from it. The media glosses over it as much as they can.

Tommy should be able to move on with his life just like Carson should have been able to.

It is sports. Nothing hard hitting needed. Forgive me for enjoying hearing the takes from multiple sources.
That’s the thing. They want to be the hard hitting neutral reporter of last century, but in reality they’re ill-informed, verging on ignorant, working at a place with an archaic business plan.

The sports section in theory generates revenue from fans of the local teams. If they’re not being a fan site, they’re not going to survive. Presumably this is why they’ve gone full homer with Chad.

Aren't you tired of the shotty "journalism" (if that's what you even call it) the DSMRag time and time again provides? Don't you think our biggest Central Iowa news provider should be held to a higher standard? They took the national spotlight that's been on our great state the past week and a half and ran a "story" about social media posts from when someone was a child, all while the reporter that scooped the "news" had a MUCH worse racial charged social media history than the person he was trying to ruin...We as Iowans deserve better!!

I was trying to nice but I told Tommy B last night on twitter I was not following him anymore and that I would not listen to the DMR guys on KXNO anymore. I said he did a great job and hoped that the Athletic would hire him to cover ISU. I'd subscribe.

You are asking a different question than what I responded to. I'm simply suggesting that I like hearing from the Register sport's reporters and would miss them. That is all. That said, if they in anyway come out and seem to support of this mess, I will change my mind.

I'm actually thinking about cancelling my subscription but am holding out to see if they come back and clean up the mess they made. Firing their editor, Carol Hunter, would be a great start.

Honestly, there is literally no reason to wait. If you want them to clean it up, you need to make your voice heard. Unfortunately the only voice of yours that they will listen to is your subscription money.
