Ive avoided posting since UNI but there is hope guys and I think a good place to look is WVU. Williams and Mary doesnt compare to UNI and WVU was lucky to beat them last week. This week they actually hang with OU. Improvement from week 1 to week 2 is often the most dramatic of the season, espessially with a young team like ours.

Second point, after seeing some results, I honestly think we have a shot to win the next three games but we have to improve.

I sometimes get hope confused with misery loves company.

But you are correct, if we can improve even a bit with as bad as big12 schools have looked who knows, maybe we do have a win here or there.

The UNI game doesnt really bother me that much on its own.

Its the fact that we are 2-7 in our last nine games, with some REALLY bad performances in there.

The biggest problem I have with this, is that our offense, especially our O-line, hasn't improved in 4 years. I bought into the "Just let them gel" mentality in the past, but I'm now at a "I'll believe it when I see it." I wouldn't be as worried if the offense played that bad against a top ranked, hell, even decent FBS team, but there is no excuse for what we saw out there last Saturday. And as I said before, it's the same thing we've seen, minus a handful of games, over the last 4 seasons. I just don't see this year being any different. You don't just all of a sudden learn how to block.

Id say in those 9 game, 4 good performances (KSU, Baylor, KU, WVU), 2 bad performances (OSU, OU), and 3 horrible performances (UT, Tulsa, UNI).

You could also say in ISU's last 10 games, they have had 5 pretty good outings (but only 3-2 in those games).

I see a lot of positves from our remaining schedule with the game watching I did yesterday, Tulsa, looked pretty bad most of the game again, WVU/OU was a yawner, WVU and OU had a ton of injuries happen in that game as well. To me the only conference teams that scare me this year after yesterday are Baylor and Okie St... TCU did not look that great either plus now they have QB contro again.....

Forget about last year, that doesn't matter now..

Gotta move on and beat Iowa

Yes, there is hope. What has to happen for this team to be good? For me, just two things:
1. The D-line must get better
2. The O-line must get better

I think #2 will happen. The run game was OK vs UNI, the pass blocking not so much. They are young and haven't played together much, and lost Farniok. So I think it is reasonable to think when Farniok returns and they play together more, then they will improve thru the season.

#1 I am much less optimistic. The defense is going to be a liability, but maybe in a few games they'll get some turnovers and be effective that way.

Other factors seem to be OK. QB is OK. Special teams OK. Going to have to find a way to win with offense though.

OK, that's a 3rd thing - Mess must figure it out NOW. Of that I am less hopeful...

Agree on Baylor. TCU will be more dangerous now without the QB issue. In both of their games, they've been more consistent with Boykin in the game. Should have just went with him from the start, same for OKie St. They should have started the season with Walsh. If OU goes with Bell and commit to running the football they could be a mirror of KState with Klien. TT will get tested next week with TCU and we'll see what they are really made of. Texas looked bad yesterday but that was a very good BYU team. KU, WVU, KSU the jury is still out on them.

I think we beat Iowa in a close one but lose to Tulsa. Tulsa runs the football well and Green will do just enough in the passing game.

the KSU and WVU game were close, but losses at Jack Trice. OSU and OU put up 1200 yards offense in those 2 games alone. Hopefully we cant get to the point where we can have a great win without having to rely on 4+ turnovers.

There is some hope. I for one am one of those guys that is not willing to accept the UNI game as the defining game in terms of performance. They deserve at least a couple more games to prove that they laid an egg against the Panthers. They better come out of that goofy tunnel ready to punch the Hawks in the mouth. If they do, they will have a good chance at a win.

I see what you're saying but I think we get better defensively because our defensive coaches have proven in the past that they can coach & scheme. I've yet to see that from the offensive staff on consistent basis.

Hopefully they both start happening this weekend.

Much like Darth Vader, I believe there is still good in this team. I'm not ready to write it off as 2-10 and completely hopeless just yet. UNI whooped ISU in a pretty similar manner 2 years ago. The difference obviously was that Jantz hit the winning lottery numbers late to pull out the win. Wally and Rhoads will circle the defensive wagons like they always do...they did in the 2nd half against UNI for the most part.
The real question is whether or not we get the 6 point 2nd half outta Mess, or the 10 pt 2nd half?

If/when skynet takes over and deploys Terminators onto our soil, I expect a good deal of the cyclone fan base will either just go fetal or kill themselves immediately, based on this week's onslaught of rants. Hopefully the team and coaching staff has a far greater sense of resolve, and chooses to pick themselves off the mat and fight like hell from here on out.

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FOR IOWA STATE!

I agree. The defensive coaches have proved they can make lemonade out of lemons in the past and I expect the same this year for the most part. I think Offensive coaches need to prove something. I'm giving them a pass for last game because
A) they did change up some schemes from last season
B) they have a lot of young talent

In the broad scheme of things, having two byes early in the year I think might benefit this team more than older more experienced teams.

The sad thing is it looks like the Big 12 is down, Tulsa is not very good and Iowa looks mediocre, but not sure if this team can take advantage.

Yesterday confirms that the Big XII is down (perhaps with the exception of Baylor and OK ST). Even so, OK St. may be distracted by other issues if these accusations are true.

BYU stomped TX after losing to an awful Virginia team in week 1. According to the game re-cap, BYU re-shuffled their O Line. Pretty good re-shuffling (500 + yards rushing!).

My view is still that unknown players have to step up and surprise us, whether on the lines or in the skill positions. Happens all the time in other programs. Can happen for this program in year five of a coaching regime, especially with a high number of Redshirt Freshmen and Sophomores.

Wouldn't discount the possibility of another position change as coaches try to put the best players on the field.

There is no hope. Only pain and suffering. Accept your fate now and make the transition into desolation easier.
