Didn't seem to have a proper conclusion.
Here are the first few lines:
Cael Sanderson had an answer for why he was leaving Iowa State for Penn State.

He just didn’t know if it was a good one.

And don't get caught up in rumors. The first time I believed Cael was leaving was when I saw the looks on the wrestler's faces.

He made an allusion to the fact that he won't be making a lot more money. We'll find out what that means.

Cael said Cody and Casey Cunninham will probably follow him to Penn State. As far as any athletes, he said it's up to the administrators.

This what he said in response to whether he thought it'd be easier to win an NCAA Championship at Penn State:
"I think they’ve won one national championship, and it was in the 50s I believe. I haven’t really checked my history, so I wouldn’t say that’s accurate."

I'd post more, but I've got my own family to attend to.

Well, if he were leaving because of an issue with Pollard I'm sure that would have been a good reason. I can see where he wouldn't feel leaving for money was a good reason.

“It wasn’t ever about a counter offer. I didn’t ask for anything, and the decision wasn’t based on what they were offering me, versus what Iowa State offers me,†Cael said. “I told Jaime that I wasn’t really, not really motivated by money. I’m motivated by opportunity and he’s been very good for me. Very understanding, and it’s hard to leave after you’ve gotten as much support as you have.â€

To me, that throws out the Pollard issue. It wasn't about that. Sounds like he just thinks it will be easier on the east coast. What a chicken ****. I can't believe I just typed that.

There's also this angle:
ISU is already a dynasty when it comes to wrestling. Penn State is not. It's really the ultimate opportunity for a coach to prove his mettle.

He gets to walk into a program with all the support in the world, in a recruiting hotbed and build it up from scratch, and mold with his hands with his name on it. If he succeeds, he's Dan Gable. No matter what he did at ISU, he would always be under the shadow of the dynasty he was just a part of, not a founding father of.

There's a lot of ego in that, but it's plausible, as driven and motivated as he is. It genuinely might not be about the money, and might well be about the chance to become the JoePa of wrestling at PSU.

But even if he won 10 national championships at Penn State - would he ever even make the front page of the school newspaper? Here he certainly would. Although I'm sure the DMRag would find a way to hide it behind everything but the Iowa arrest reports.

Good points.

You may be correct, but I believe $$$$$ still had an influence.

don't kid yourself, we're no dynasty. We might have tradition and a fair number of titles but not a dynasty. If he would have had a career here this would VERY clearly have been HIS program. Like I said yesterday, I will remember him as an ISU legend, the greatest of all time, a great person, and a chicken**** coach...and this just confirms it. If it was about Pollard he would have said nothing about him, not that he had all the support he needed.

Its all about $$$. Cael has 2,500,000 reasons over 5 years to go to Penn State. Stop being Dumb Arses. Of Course he can't say he is going for $$$, that would be a stupid answer.

Lets see:
$2.5 million
Great Facilities
Great Recruiting Base

This is no-Brainer. I'm very upset to see Cael go, but this is a NO-BRAINER.

Also, Get off Pollard's ARSE, We can't pay our Wrestling Coach $2,500,000. are you Crazy.

Where is this information? Has the contract size been officially released?

Everyone is talking about the contract, but I want to know what the signing bonus was?

Why can't he say he took the PSU job for the money??????

Did Johnny Orr come up with some lame excuse when he came here?????? Johnny gave only one honest answer--- the money!!!!!!!!!!

Cael-- it's not too late to come clean.

My gut feeling of late is a major reason for leaving was because of his Mormon faith. Certainly faith and family is very important to Cael, and maybe there just wasn't enough of a Mormon presence in Ames. That is ok, but not sure if he would want to bring that up in the public.

This is my theory also. Nothing else really makes any sense or passes the "smell test". All of his answers to questions about leaving seem really, really, strange.

Maybe the Mormon church would like to see him become an icon somewhere else with much higher population density. Shades of Tom Cruise and scientology?

The Mormon idea is interesting but I don't think I buy it. I think long term job security may have been a factor. I fear the Big 12 will drop wrestling in the not too distant future and shortly after that so will ISU. I could also see why Cael wouldn't want to publicly state that as a factor.

I don't quite understand why so many think that the Big 12 is going to drop wrestling. Have there been rumors of this? aTm has a wrestling club, and UT just added a wrestling club this year. I don't know if there is the support at these schools to move the clubs to the varsity level, but I think it is interesting that UT added a wrestling club.

There are two Big 12 sports for which there are fewer participants than wrestling. I believe that ISU is already at the NCAA minimum for Men's sports, so ISU won't be dropping wrestling without adding something else.

So he's going out east to live with a bunch of Quakers?:jimlad:
