The Principal Charity Golf Classic

Was just going to post this. Taking my 5 year old with me on Saturday. Needing advice too on best places to sit etc as well.
There are lots of ways to enjoy the classic. You can follow a group with a golfer you like, but in my opinion the most fun is just staying planted at a certain green. Par 3 greens are usually the best because you can see the tee shot as well.
I forget what hole it is but there is a Par 3 green that is very close to the next tee box on a par 4. So you can kind of go back and fourth watching them put and then drive on the next hole.

I have been a few times, always fun. I prefer to walk around and follow groups for a few holes.
If you have kids, that isn't always so practical as it is pretty hilly. Sit near one of the greens where the players walk off. They are generally pretty nice to kids and will high five them or give them a golf ball or something. My son loved that.
Also for kids, getting autographs by the 18th green is a good time. Most of the guys are accommodating.
And for the big kids, the par 3 14(?) with the beer garden is fun. Beer specials whenever someone makes a birdie.
My sons (ages 14 and 10) are participating in the Drive, Putt and Chip contest their on Saturday so if you see a 6'4" guy carrying around an assortment of golf clubs buy him a beer, I'll need it. :smile:

I usually go for at least one round per year.
They’ve actually created a pretty fun atmosphere behind the green on #14. They have the 312 (i.e…Goose Island) Beer tent there. If this works the same as last year, at 12 minutes after every hour, beers are cheaper (two for one?). Also, they sold beer cheap anytime a birdie is made on #14 (it is a par three….albeit, a difficult birdie hole.). This helps really get the crowd into it when the guys are putting for birdies.

I sat by the 15th green 2 years ago and it was a good time. It is a par 5 that isn't reachable due to a creek that runs in front of the green. It is amazing watching those guys throwing darts at the flag from about 100 to 130 yards. You can then walk about 20 feet and across a street to the 16th tee (par 3) and stand 10 feet away from these guys as they tee off. It's a tricky little hole so you can listen to them discussing club selection with their caddies. You also get to see their reaction to both good and bad shots cause that hole can play very difficult depending on the wind conditions.
Saturday is "Kid's Day", so expect bounce houses and other kids things as soon as you get in the gate. i.e....be prepared to be stalled for awhile before you get to watch any golf.
