I was overly critical of certain positions after the game. I rewatched the game and focused on the lines.

The Oline played better than I initially thought due to breakdowns in the running game. The run blocking wasn't great but there were several times the inside zone was open but the RB kicked it outside. Not sure if by design or the RB didn't see it.

The defense obviously schemed against the zone read and filled the box against the run. Now that we've seen the "scrape" hopefully the coaches can prepare and the offensive will have an answer to it when teams defend against the zone read.

That is the best ISU Dline Performance I've seen.

I first thought the offense played poorly but Iowa's defense did play a good game. We had our chances to put up points but 3 TO's prevented that. When you play against good D's you need to capitalize on your chances. We also had open shots down field that Jantz missed on that if he hit would have loosened up their D. Thankfully Iowa's offense didn't play as well as their D.

I feel better about the win today than I did yesterday. A lot of things to improve on. Oline still has some issues. That Jantz fumble was caused by a missed block and the Tackles were having trouble maintain their blocks.

There was a point late in the game that looked like we had no plays that would work. Yet so did they.

It could have been a better game, but its still a W on the record. As long as the players and coaches learned a little bit from their performances I'm happy as hell.

ya; lots to digest here. We cleaned up so many issues from last week; punt return much better; kick coverage much better. I think the absolute key going forward without a doubt is getting the deep vertical passing game going; it seemed like Iowa just gambled by stacking the box and daring us to launch it deep; that tells me they felt like ISU was defenitly better offense than their defense. Lots of respect there. If Jantz cannot start consistently hitting those then forget about it; bench him and put in Barnett. This may be even a bigger deal than the interceptions. There were tons of interceptions thrown over the middle yesterday in college football so I didn't feel so bad this morning bout that.

Secondary point of emphasis is red zone offense; it we don't get better there we will not beat TCU; KSU; OSU; OU; WVU; BU [get the point]. Woody and more of a TE presence can help there; possibly better play calling too.

Probably good ISU didn't win handily; keep the team humble; this is not the time of year to be high on yourself.

Outlook for me went from very optimistic to cautiously optimistic.

It drove me nuts that when we were on the 2 yard line trying to score with a 1st and goal, we didn't line up in an I-formation and try to punch it in.

Steele made some REALLY bad mistakes, but I think that he is still going to have a good year.

One last thing, this defense is pretty good:smile:
