Seems like a lot of the "participation trophies are the wussification of America!" crowd is also the same as the "soccer is the wussy sport!" crowd.

Now, professional soccer is really the only sport where you don't get a "participation trophy", EXCEPT IN THE UNITED STATES.

If you end up at the bottom of your league, you go down to a less prestigious, less lucrative league. If you are at the top of your league you go on to bigger competitions, get preferential treatment in domestic competition, or at the very least get more money. This is how it is all over the world with a few exceptions.

Also, in world football the majority of contracts are incentive based, with bonuses for playing a certain amount of games or reaching statistical milestones. In the US a guy like Joel Embiid can get paid millions for not playing for two years straight.

In the main US sports, if you suck you get rewarded with a high draft pick, you don't get relegated to a lower level, the players still get paid the same.

Is this another post a stupid scenario and see how people react thread? I'm not sure I see any correlation to the first statement.

You lost all credit after you called soccer "football". Everyone is now dumber for having read this. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

This may be true but, if they suck, the tend to end up in Cleveland (temporary exception for basketball).

yea but how do you know you suck if no one is the loser?

Scott Christopherson must think soccer is a wussy sport.

I don't think I've ever met anyone that has said soccer is a wussy sport, it's just a stupid sport that's extremely boring and no one should give a **** about. If I want to see something run back and forth with a ball I'l just buy two hamsters and give them a bouncy ball.
