"The Lost Decade" ends Wednesday

Ahh.....I like it the lost decade. Of course, I've been trying to determine when the tide would turn for us for years now. First, it was the 5 year anniversary of the Elite 8 team. Then it was having Larry come back to Hilton. Then it was getting rid of Wayne Morgan. I hope I'm not trying to find it in another 10 years :)

It's probably the price that I pay for getting to witness, as a student at Iowa State, the greatest season ever for Iowa State basketball.

Well at least its not as bad as "The Lost Generation" which JP has referred to regarding football. Although the lost decade of basketball hurts me worse, probably because I'm conditioned as part of the lost generation.

Brent Blum on Iowa State Basketball: The last decade | Cyclone Fanatic

In Brent Blum's article he says that the lost decade began with the loss to Baylor in the Big 12 tourney. That decade officially ends Wednesday. Whether you believe that things will be better right after it ends or not, it still is great timing.

Although I don't believe in neat-and-tidy delineations, I wouldn't mind if the karma changed immediately on the anniversary date of an inexplicable loss like that (which was just a precursor to the "next inexplicable loss like that" a week later).

Although I wouldn't bet a single cent toward it, this is as good a time as any for a "12th seed gets auto bid!" week. After 10 years of riches-to-rags coaching controversies, player defections, controversial coaching fires/hires, dropping from a consistently competitive program to irrelevance and two seasons of close-but-not-quite results ... might as well make an interesting conference tournament run.

I can't believe how fast time flies. It doesn't seem that long ago, but it was. It's astounding when I think of all that has happened in life since we last had success on the basketball court.

It is amazing to think what has transpired since we were once a relevant program.

We were relevant when we went to the NIT Final Four, and when we started the year ranked #25 and played Virginia...

The downhill nature of the program was McDermott. A lost decade? Me not think so. A lost 5 years? Definitley.

I agree, we were a final four NIT team and then made the NCAA second round the next year. It started sliding in Morgan's final year and every year of McDermott. Good times are on the horizon.

Agree it's been a lost half decade. Winning seasons and winning tournament games don't fit in a lost decade.
