Randy "Big Unit" Johnson tries for win #300 today against the Nationals in DC. In the botton of the 5th SF is up 2-0.

OK, now let the "Big Unit" jokes fly.

last pitcher in our lifetime to get to 300, kinda cool if you think about it that way

Should be the last pitcher to ever reach this milestone...

I wouldn't say he'll be the last to ever reach the milestone, but from here on out they will probably be few and far between. Looking down the list of active pitchers though, it looks like the next best chance is Roy Halladay. Roy is 32 and dominating right now, he will more than likely be over 150 by the end of the season. Everyone ahead of him is either too old to get there, or just not dominating enough to really be a threat.

After him, most likely it would be Roy Oswalt (131, Age 31), C.C. Sabathia (121, Age 28) and Johann Santana (116, Age 30).

I would think that in the next 10 years, one of those will make the milestone, if just barely, it takes longevity, remember Randy is 45 nowadays. Give Roy 12 years of averaging 13 wins and he makes it.

I remember watching Randy as an Expos rookie. I thought he'd never turn into much of anything, just the kind of fascinating experiment of a 6'10" pitcher who didn't know where the ball was going. Glad I was wrong, because it's been really nice to see how his career has turned into a Hall of Fame one.
