I will probably get run out of CF for this, but I do not see us winning the football game on Saturday unless we play flawless football. We can't afford any mistakes and so far we haven't been able to do that.

I do not think Iowa is that much better, but the game is in Iowa City. I have to give the edge to Iowa. Both teams are fairly inexperienced and playing with a lot of young guys, but I think home field is big in this series right now.

I still think we win 6 games and improve dramatically as the year goes on.

Well, I happen to agree.......... The ONLY reason I think Iowa wins is because it's in Kinnick.

I agree. IMO, Iowa wins because of home field. If, however we spread the field and see 4 wide all game than all bets are off and I can't see us being stopped and we win.

You can bet Kirk is going to have his guys fired up. Atleast he'd better, because the seat just gets hotter if they lose to ISU at home.

If we have to play flawless ball to beat Iowa, how are we going to win 4 more games (3 of which must come from the Big 12)?

I won't flame anybody for predicting an Iowa win as long as it's based on solid logic and not the "Clowns suck, Iowa RULZ!!!1!" theory.

I don't know who will win the game this weekend, but let's just say I'm much more confident in our chances this year than I was last year, and we won that one. I'm looking forward to watching what should be a good game.

I think we improve as the year goes on and will then be able to afford a few mistakes that come with a young team. Right now, our margin of error is small against a pretty good opponent.

Only reason you may get flack for this is because there are numerous other threads started for this exact type of post.

What? You mean this isn't the first time someone started a new thread offering up their opinion of the BIG GAME?

Flawless?? Come on. Did Western Michigan play flawless ball? The only thing ISU has to do is get off those zone blocks and make Shonn Greene make cuts in the backfield. That and pass protect. We're not going up against Oklahoma here. They looked great against two teams that are worse than SDSU. Wow. Iowa may well win, but all it takes is a turnover or a special teams play to turn it into an ISU victory. It's going to be close and the team who makes mistakes is going to get beat.

Agreed. While we will have to play good to win, we sure don't have to play "flawless" against another overhyped, overrated Iowa team

I'm just sick of all the gloom and doom on here. This team is SO much better than last year and I have much more confidence than I have in the past. The last few days I have been on here and have seen very little confidence in winning this game and I'm wondering how people do not see what I see in Iowa having plenty of flaws also. Flawless football? Won't happen, but I don't think it takes us out of the W column either because there will be flaws on the other side of the ball also.

I don't buy the "it's Kinnick, so we will lose" theory. It can be a tough place to play, but people can win there, even teams worse than us.

This game is interesting to me, because in my opinion, Kirk can't win the big game. It seems like whenever there is a lot of pressure on Iowa to win the game, they can't come through.

Look at the 2002 Orange Bowl
Look at last year's Western Michigan Game
Look at when they've played at home against Ohio State, when they were supposed to be good.
Look at when they come into Ames in 2005 ranked #8 and lose 23-3

I don't think Kirk brings the best out of his players. Is he a decent coach? Yes. Does he get his players to play to their potential? Probably not.

To me, this is a test to see how good we are and it's also a test to see if Kirk can handle all the heat.

I tell you, my children, everything is falling perfectly into place. The hawkeyes are feeling a very false sense of security after whipping two horrible teams, including FIU - the worst team to ever set foot in Kinnick. Our coach is adding to that false sense of security by being Debbie Downer about his own team this week and praising the hawkeyes.

This is the formula that has contributed to 7 wins in the last 10 years, and it will likely work again this year.

The hawk fans tease us about ripping off the USC uniforms. Well, they're going to think we ARE USC after they see the speed we play with compared to the cream puffs they've played the first two weeks.

The reasons are the same every year why they'll win and we won't. EVERY YEAR! Yet we win. Actually I think it's Iowa that will have to be flawless on offense to win. Their offense is archaic and they are starting a new quarterback that has played catch in the back yard the last 2 weeks. We've been tested and squashed momentum the last 2 weeks. So, then the argument is that because we've been tested it means we're not that good. This is setting up just like last year. The difference is we'll score touchdowns (plural) this year and Stanzi will have to beat us because Chizik will not let Greene.

Oh woe is the Cyclones, we shouldnt even show up because there is no way we could ever beat the mighty hawkeyes in kinnick, it just cant happen. /End Sarcasm/

Is another thread like this really necessary?

Not true there is a home team there too.
