The Athletics top 25 coaches in college football

For those with a subscription to the Athletic, they just released their top 25 college coaches and Matt Campbell comes in at #21. It states that he will likely climb higher on the list with time. Can’t link due to having the app and you likely need a subscription to view the article.

Actually, both Stewart Mandel and Bruce Feldman each submitted Top 25 FB coaches. CMC was #21 on Mandel's list, #15 on Feldman's list.

Full disclosure: Stew (accidentally?) left off Matt Campbell on his initial version before I pointed out his gaffe.

And before the iowa fans on here chime in, here is Mandel's response:

It's not a longevity award. Ferentz has produced one -- one -- Top 25 team this decade.

All they need to do is throw more money at him. He can't win without more cash.

Even if he wasn't the Ferentz bashing needs to stop.

Kirk Ferentz's career at Iowa has been worth every single penny for Iowa. It wouldn't pass at OU or UT but the consistent above average winning percentage with Orange Bowls and Rose Bowls and top ten finishes sprinkled in is as good as Iowa can hope for. Iowa's been at the same above average level since about 1980 which is pretty amazing considering how sh*tty they were from about 1960 to '80. I'd take Ferentz at that price ten times out of ten.

My favorite are Iowa fans complaining about him only getting 8 wins a year. Careful what you wish for

I agree w/ this take completely. KF has been a great thing for Iowa football. Some of their fans are nuts to wanted to run him out every other year or so.

The Fran loyalists however...yikes.

Yeah they hate being decent at one thing but love the failure at the other.
