HUGE thank you to not only Cyclone veterans, but all veterans that have and are serving our country. We are the land of the free because of the brave. I salute you.

You are welcome and I agree.... thank you to my fellow veterans. I am especially grateful to all those who have served in time of war and on the battlefronts. They are some of the greatest, least selfish people on the face of the earth and I owe them a debt that can never be repaid.

My service was on this fine boat with an awesome crew. It was an honor and privilege.

Let us remember today might bear the name "Veterans' Day," but it is really Armistice Day. The eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month. The guns fell silent over Europe.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

~John McCrae (1919)

Thanks to all veterans, especially you Dad. Thanks for living through the bullet in the chest and the blood they gave you with the wrong Rh factor so that I exist.

And no thanks to my email Veterans Day spam. :spinny:

It was an honor to serve, and all of us vets appreciate the thanks. If you see a serviceman or woman having lunch or dinner at a restaurant, consider picking up their check.

My dad started college at 16. On his 18th birthday he dropped out, hitch hiked from Rhode Island to San Diego and joined the Navy for WWII. Then called his mother and told her where he was.

Thanks to my dad, who is an Air Force veteran and was in Vietnam, as well as being stationed in other parts of the far East. Love you, dad!

Grandpa (WWI infantry), Daddy (shortly after the Battle of the Bulge), & two of our sons (first salute).
My maternal grandfather also served in WWI, as a chaplain, but he died when I was eleven and I don't have any pictures of him. I have a picture of his gravestone on Chaplain's Hill at Arlington, but not with me.

These are the veterans closest to my heart. :)

I usually don't participate in social-media-type tributes to our military because I feel they are insufficient for what needs to be done nor as deeply appreciative as we need to be....but this is cool. Thanks for sharing. I have veteran ancestors who truly served.......as opposed to the public "servant" politicians and partisan hacks in the news the last couple days that have given me the blues. My heroes are not sports stars, singers, or celebrities, but the people in the photos above. Thank you.

My father was a Korean War Vet. He was able to participate in a local "Honor Flight" in May. He loved the experience and said how well they were treated on the flight. He passed away 6 weeks after the Honor Flight. We donated all memorial money so that other veterans could have the same experience. What a great program!!!
Thanks to all Vets for making my life better!!!
