We all know who's tops in the Big 12, and both will likely be slated as number 1 seeds come March, but who is truly better Kansas or Texas? I'm going to say Kansas even though Texas beat them because they have the Morris twins, Morningstar, and a supporting cast that is playing crazy good right now. They're 6th in the nation in scoring and 1st in FGP. Your guys' opinions?

I'd have to say Texas. Yes, they beat Kansas but I just think they look better.

Texas. They dont have the full talent n choke factor going this year like they normally do. They have been very solid in their wins.

As a Jayhawk, I have to go with Texas. They play better defense. You have to play really good defense to make it deep in the tourney. One bad shooting night and your done if don't have a top defensive team. This is not one of KU's better defensive teams and it could be the best defensive team I've ever seen Texas put on the court.

KU, but only because of the Rick Barnes factor. That guy has a habit of coaching his team out of close games.

Texas.

Texas has better teamwork; KU has more talent. Teamwork wins in this case.

Kansas. Coaching. Bill Self >>>>> Rick Barnes. Barnes does a hell of a job recruiting, but is a crappy coach.

Texas. I think Texas has more talent, plays better D, and does a better job rebounding the basketball then Kansas.

When it comes NCAA tournament time it is a guarantee that in most games 1 player from the opposing team is going to get hot and you have to be able to shut him down. Texas has Balbay who might be the best defender in the entire country. Texas has all of their bases covered.

Absolutely correct. Even with the coaching advantage I'd say they probably both end up doing the same amount of damage in the tourney....Elite 8/Final Four and that's it.

This. Barnes' teams are always great rebounding teams, but this Texas team is really playing tough D. Taking teams completely out of their games. Very intense.
I wonder if a new assistant coach has come on board? Something's different - and better - about Texas this year.

Considering Texas beat Kansas at Kansas, I will have to go with Texas.

To argue that the head to head match up doesn't count is hawkeye like and silly.

They are playing like a team and not a bunch of individuals wrried about their own stock. It may be the first time I have seen Barnes get a team to gel.

I don't know.... Kansas has a history of getting a very high seed in the NCAA Tournament and then they don't bother to show up. Apparently Kansas recruits talented kids that play great in the regular season and then they think they can bank on their regular season accomplishments to carry them in the post season. That leads to more losses like their failures against Bradley, Bucknell, and UNI type teams. I see the same thing for them this year.

KU has been playing much better as of late. I think they are starting to peak at the right time. Texas is very good too. However, I see KU of going further this year.

Very strange isn't it.

I really think the key guy is Balbay and his D. He got injured and missed their final 7 games last season and it hurt them especially in their OT loss to Wake Forest in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament. I am pretty sure the Wake pg wouldn't have gone off for 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists had Balbay been stuck to him like glue the entire game.

Just out of curiosity, can you tell me the teams who have won more tournament games in the last five or ten years?

I don't think anybody is debating that they've won more than their share of games, but you also can't debate that they've left 3 colossal floaters as HEAVY favorites under Self. I happen to think a lot more of Self as a coach than I do Barnes, but I agree that this Texas team looks different than a lot of his other ones. I'll be interested to see how both carry the conference banner in the dance.
