MLB: Teahan Traded to White Sox

And they trade him in the division. Goodness the Royals management frustrates me.

KC media is saying Teahen has heard absolutely nothing about this & neither team has confirmed anything yet. While this might indeed happen, it's also possible that the guy with the Daily News ran with a rumor & might end up looking stupid.

Royals management frustrates the hell out of me too, but I would actually be ok with this trade. Teahen is starting to get expensive; he'll probably make $5m this year after arbitration. Considering he only hit .271/.325/.408 I don't think it's a huge loss especially if he's spending most of his time in a corner OF spot.

Fields doesn't really excite me at all, but I like Getz & think he might end up being a good player. My biggest concern is that the acquisition of Getz will move Callaspo to the bench which would not make me happy. And I wouldn't be shocked at all if that is indeed what happens because this is the Royals we are talking about.

Cyfanatic, did Getz play any SS for the White Sox last year and if so how did he look? It sounds like he's got a pretty avg. arm which makes 2B a better fit, but I'm just curious if he can play there at all. It doesn't really matter anyway though considering we're stuck with Betancorpse at SS for the foreseeable future.

:arghh: You have got to be SH*TTING ME!!!!!! We had better offers last year!!!

I mean...honestly are we trying to get worse, if thats even possible?! We have other bums on our team that we could have traded to pull in those two losers. Sounds like if it is true, it was a trade to just trade and no sense behind it.

I liked Callaspo last year, which is one reason this trade makes no sense to me. So you trade Teahan for a guy that k's a lot and is really only useful at DH and a 2B. We have several guys that are really only useful at DH and K a lot (Butler, Jacobs) and a 2B which the Royals already have a comparable player at.

So basically you just traded an outfielder (which they really have none of) for two guys which they don't need. Baseball in general frustrates me because of the structure but moreso the Royals frustrate me and just make me not care about the sport. I watched probably 2 innings of the WS in total.

I'm hoping they send Gretz down to Omaha for a year or two. I just really don't understand this trade. It definitely opens the door for other trades. Goodbye Jacobs...thats almost a given at this point which totally doesn't upset me.

Actually trading Jacobs does upset me....give us back Nunez!

I don't recall Getz playing SS...although he may have played a game or two there? Nix was the backup IF so he pretty much filled in for any IF who was injured or needed a day off.

Getz is a good ballplayer...bottom of the order type of guy and when he is in that position he is exciting. The thing about Getz is that he is not young...I am guessing he is at least 25? While he doesn't have a lot of MLB experience...he is not a young hot-shot prospect anymore. He is definitely a solid player though...when healthy, which has been his problem.

Chicago Sun Times is running a banner on their webpage that says the White Sox have "confirmed" this trade...although that word is not mentioned in the article.

For what it's worth, there are some White Sox fans that are pretty upset with giving up Getz.

Getz is 26 and will be 27 next season. AAA is not in the cards for him if he is going to be a viable pro.

Getz is an okay player, but other than running the bases, he does nothing exceptionally well.

Fields has tons of power, but the problem is him putting the bat on the ball.

As a Sox fan, I don't mind the trade, but I don't think it's a very significant one, either. What position is Teahen best at? It seems he'll likely be 3B and move Beckham to the middle infield, he'll be 2B, or he'll replace Dye in right.

I gotta think the White Sox want Teahan to play RF and finding a 3B somehow (Figgins...yeah, dreaming) so they can either slide Beckham and Ramirez to the right or just move Beckham to 2B. Maybe Teahan is the 3B...but I doubt it.

I thought I read somewhere that Teahan has been an Opening Day starter the past 5 years at 5 different positions...is that correct?

I believe 3B is his best position, but he was moved because of Alex Gordon. I don't know exactly what KW's plan is, but Teahen's position may be dependent on who else we can get. Beckham had been a middle infielder in his career until last summer, so I don't think him at third is set in stone.

Dang... I wish Teahan would have gone to the other team in Chicago... He's a good, versitle guy who hits well. Good work out of Kenny Williams...

Plus, I think playing 3B will make Beckham's numbers less exciting...if he were to play SS or 2B and hit the way we hope he hits...he would be an All-Star for a long time! I know that is not how teams build rosters...but if you can get a decent 3B along with Becks in the middle of the IF...that is a bonus!

I know this is a stretch because the guy has not played a full year in the bigs...but I could see Beckham having Ryne Sandburg type seasons at 2B...but also be a better fielder! I don't like drawing any comparisons (especially positive ones...lol) with the Cub organization...but if Beckham could play 2B well and hit there...we would be very very happy with him...for a long time!

This is an interesting trade... I think it likely signals there will be more moves to come for the Royals. I think it is really hard to gauge this trade as it likely one part of a series of deals.

We landed a 2B and 3B.... does that mean management feels they will likely move Callaspo? That would be ok with me if they can get something good.... Callaspo is a good hitter but plays an outright awful 2B, which is tough when we have an awful SS like Betancourt... or could Gordon move to 1B (W/ Butler at DH), and Callaspo/Fields battling for 3rd (Callaspo's lack of range isn't as big an issue at 3rd and he played it ok last year). Or is Getz just a backup or a trade chip? Or could Gordon be traded as well?

Teahen is one of my favorite players on the Royals personally.... but I am fine with trading him if it works out for the best.... he is just a very average hitter and not a good enough hitter to play one of the corner OF spots. Of course we probably don't have anyone better.

It seems that the Cubs were in on him near the trade-deadline? If that is the case, makes you wonder if KW is just trying to trade for guys the Cubs wanted first (ie Peavy)!
