Our taxes are starting to get more complicated than we want to deal with so we're looking to hire a professional. Does anyone have any recommendations in the DSM metro?

My taxes aren't complicated, but I'm lazy and just don't want to deal with it, so I've always taken mine to H&R Block. They've always done right by me, even though they charge way too much for just a simple tax return. This year's taxes were more complicated than in the past because I had three different sources of income and they charged me $189 to do them.

But for most of my career, it was just a straight forward simple tax form and they always charged me $100 or more, depending on specials they had going on. It was worth it to me not to have to deal with it. Luckily, this is the last year I'll ever have to deal with taxes, unless I do something crazy like find a part-time job or cash in my retirement fund in one lump sum and take off for Thailand to spend the rest of my days.

Just to throw out a Cadillac option. We use Bergan KDV for our LLC, and so the partners have them do our personal taxes too. They are very good, but not cheap. I think I paid $650 last year, but I know my taxes are fairly complicated between the K1, investments, etc.

Just to add some clarity, I am looking for a tax professional that can advise and make recommendations about tax implications with investments and provide strategies, not just someone to file my return each year.

Wishing I would have went that route myself last year, as it appears Uncle Sam is bending me over real good with my 2021 return. Ouch!!

I might be in the minority but I think that’s a great value and generally speaking I don’t think good tax accountants get paid enough.

I would use Kockler accounting in Nevada. Very good and a lot of Ames people go there. Average price.

We use Jeff Vroman in WDM for our LLC and personal. Not cheap, but very much on top of his game.

Jv is solid. Matt Juffer at Hamilton Juffer in DSM is high end but excellent.

Brian Newton or Nick Finkenauer at McGowen Hurst Clark will do a phenomenal job as well if your looking for someone in Clive/West Des Moines. I can't quote you a price, but don't expect it to be cheap.

Would someone mind throwing out a ballpark price to get your taxes filed? Just personal income taxes, married with kids, no business filings.

I've always done HR Block myself, but I have an employee stock program at work that will have some changes this year that may add some complexity. I'm planning to hire someone for 2022 (and plan to going forward) and just curious what I should expect for the cost.
