I need some help, I'm looking for new ideas for something that I can prepare and take with or prepare at the game. I've got my sister inlaw and her husband going to the game this weekend. Idea's???

It's gonna be cool!! How 'bout a big pot of Southern Comfort Jambalaya and some corn bread.

If you don't plan on grilling, I suggest walking tacos. It works well if you have a bunch of people coming. Each person brings one ingredient.

Take some potatos, onions, pepers, mushrooms, and what everelse you like; slice them all up, put them in foil put half a stick or so of real butter on them, close the foil and put them on the grill. In 30 mins or whenever the tatters are soft take them off and enjoy. Heck you probaly could chop some steak up and fry in the foil as well.

Main course - steak baby, do it on the grill. Use burgers and chicken breasts as side dishes and brats as appetizers. Mmmm, that's good eating.

little off topic but there seems to be enough tailgaiting threads.. so question the grass east of jack trice where the sand v ball courts are, can anyone just put up a tent and tailgait there? is there a cost? do i need to let pple know ahead of time?

We're having Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches, specially prepared with cardinal and gold bell peppers. These are always a big treat at a tailgate and their relatively easy to make, although I can't help you with the recipe. My job is to eat them. :cute:

Anyone have any good chili recipes out there for tailgating?

the best chili i've ever made uses elk burger instead of beef. the elk has a very good flavor and texture, and also won't mask the flavor of the other ingredients like the beef will.

Had the steak sandwiches last week....mmm mmm good. This week I am smoking Ribs on friday night and grilling them on Saturday - have a wonderful BBQ sauce and a great dry rub.

We use the lots just east of the volleyball courts, back by the haunted forest. Cost last season was $15 and I don't think there are any restrictions as far as who can park and who can use tents. I think it's open to anyone. I believe they open at 12pm (noon) this week.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Last week I took about 4 lbs of chicken wings, dry rubbed them with some garlic, grille seasoning, liquid smoke (and whatever else was within arm's reach) and grilled them. After grilling, I put them in a crock pot with a half stick of butter and a bottle of wings&things sauce. After about 30 minutes, they were falling off the bone. This of course requires electric for the crock pot- we have a sweet '72 Winnie.

Can't disagree with MontyBurns though- Brats are always a good appetizer!

tiefenthaler brats out of holstein iowa are the absolute best-hands down. if you ever get to that locker, buy in bulk. they have many different flavors-jalepeno and cheddar, bacon and cheddar, tomato basil, mushroom swiss, and regular flavor. they are skinless and they are the bomb. i'm stopping there on my way down to pick some up.l

The ISU meat science program has a store with some very good brats and ground pork patties, as well as beef and some processed products. If you're ever in Ames on Wed. or Fri. over the noon hour, check them out. Iowa State University: Meat Science

If you're wondering what's actually available on any given day, call the number on the page.
Mmmm!
