Sure, Seattle lost. But

who's going to unseat them atop the NFC in the near future?

I'd say Green Bay could...then the Cardinals? Anybody else? New Orleans? NYG?

I just don't see anyone but the Packers really standing in their way. Thoughts?

Packers should have been in the super bowl to begin with. They dominated Seattle and then completely collapsed with about 4 minutes left in the championship game.

Seahawks ended the year hot, but it's not like they were untouchable this year. I'd say several teams could have a shot in the near future, Cowboys, Eagles, Cardinals, hell maybe even the Lions (lol, jk).

NYG?!? Lololol

How about Dallas? The road warriors of the NFL won in Seattle and was a terrible rule on what a catch is away from getting another shot to beat Seattle again.

Doesn't a lot hinge on what Seattle does with contracts? How much do they offer Lynch and is Wilson headed for being the highest paid player in the NFL? They've been getting by pretty cheap, especially at qb but now they're going to have to make some tough choices. Dynasties aren't usually ruined by age, they're ruined by attrition. That's what makes New England's run all the more impressive.

The window in the NFL can close quickly.

Dallas, Philly, Green Bay, etc. If you want to crown 'em then crown'em. But they are who we think they are

Get the Cardinals a healthy QB and they could be there.

I'm not sold on Green Bay.I don't think Randall Cobb re-signs with the Packers - if he does, then they will definitely be a contender. If Cobb is gone, then GB could be in trouble.

Dallas could make some noise in the off-season. It all depends on the RB situation. I could see them making a play for Adrian Peterson and if that were to happen they would have to be a candidate. They could also re-sign Murray, but that could cost them some salary that could be better spent on defensive personnel.

Dallas, Arizona, Green Bay and Seattle are the top 4 in the NFC.

I think the key to knocking Seattle off their perch is making them play on the road in the NFC championship game.

Cowboys if they can keep the team intact.

This is what I was driving at with the OP. Assuming the Seahawks get their contracts squared away (Lynch, Wilson, etc.) who is in the best position going forward to win the NFC. Like I said, I could see GB. Imo the Cowboys with Tony Romo & Jason Garett will never win the NFC title.

The salary cap will take down Seattle.

Paying your QB $1MM allows to build a great team around him. Now if they have to pay him $20MM, what do they lose? ALso those other players they have will want new contracts. Can't keep everyone, its not baseball.

Not much of a Ravens fan except KO, but still feeling a bit for them losing the coin toss.

IMO the Seahawks were the 3rd best team in the NFC this past year and with them now signing Wilson to a big deal I expect them to slip down to the 4-8 range in the NFC.

Cowboys and Packers were better football teams than Seattle this year. An epic collapse on the road by the Packers doesn't change the fact that they have a brighter future IMO.

Yeah, a top 5 QB and an emerging coach will never amount to anything. /s

That's just dumb. Neither Romo nor Garett are the reason they lost to the Packers, horrible rule/call notwithstanding. They'll get better on offense, almost no matter who they end up with at RB. Murray would be the best, but then they'll have less money for the defense. AP is an option, Mark Ingram behind that line would be great, or a 2nd-4th round pick in the draft. They'll focus on defense in the offseason, and give Romo and Garett more chances to win.

As things stand now, I guess Seattle would have to be considered the favorite with Green Bay and Dallas right behind. But the landscape could shift so much in the offseason. AP, Suh, Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray could all be on the move in free agency and there are a couple teams that are only a player or two away.
I think Atlanta is going to bounce back along with the Saints, and Carolina will be in the mix as well. If Chip Kelly can find a triggerman for his offense then the Eagles could contend. And I don't know what the Giants defense will look like, but I bet defensive coordinators around the league are having nightmares about trying to cover Beckham Jr. and Cruz. That's going to be a potent offense in New York.

A lot of this will change based free agency and the draft, but here are the teams that could unseat Seattle with the roster they have now.

Green Bay: Had numerous boneheaded mistakes in the NFC championship. Had anyone of the mistakes made in the 4th not happened the Packers probably could have been the ones in the Super Bowl last night. They do have some key contracts expiring so this may depend on if they can keep guys like Randall Cobb and Brian Bulaga around for next season or not.

Dallas: They were 1 bad call away from going to Seattle, which was a place they already had won in earlier in the season. Romo and Murray were having some of the best seasons of their careers as well. A lot could change if Murray and Bryant walk in free agency though, so the jury is still out on them.

Arizona: Did anyone have worse luck than Arizona did? Carson Palmer isn't elite by any stretch of the imagination but was playing well until he went down. They probably could have survived with Drew Stanton, but once he went down the season was officially lost. If they didn't get bitten hard by the injury bug then it's very possible they would have won the NFC West over Seattle.

Philadelphia: Another team hurt by injuries. Starting Mark Sanchez was worse for them than losing Nick Foles imo. Foles isn't the greatest QB either, but the Eagles looked like contenders before Foles was injured. If they can keep Maclin they may have something next year

Something to remember is that before the Eagles lost Foles and the Cardinals lost Palmer and Stanton Seattle was in danger of missing the playoffs altogether, and ended up only 2 games ahead of the Eagles who were the first team to miss the playoffs from the NFC and finished tied with the Packers and Cowboys for first. The gap between Seattle and the other playoff teams isn't as large as it appears, and the draft and free agency will go a long way to determine how big it really is. Seattle is going to run into the same problem the 49ers had when they were on top of the world, which is money. The NFC should be pretty fun next year.
