Anyone else seen this? I just saw it tonight, and I really enjoyed it. It is not going to win awards, but the kid actors did a pretty good job, and the monster reveal was kind of cool, if typical for Spielberg.

What kind of movie is it? Scary?

Its got a few suspenseful shots, but it is not too bad. It is definitely not horror. It is a pretty good personal drama wrapped in a Spielberg and Abrams plot. I don't want to give too much away, as it will ruin some of the film.

Hit the matinée this afternoon, I enjoyed it. And the kids did a great job.

Going to see it in about an hour. I cant wait.

C.John, I hate your avatar. I've smacked my screen on three separate occasions.

I just got back from seeing it. Great movie all-around; writing, action, story, effects. It all worked perfectly.

It is definitely not horror.

No, but there certainly were some moments that made the audience jump.

Saw it on Saturday and liked it. Although, I feel the ending was a bit rushed. Other thoughts...

1) Super 8 = a darker ET. Indeed, most negative critics seem to dislike the film because it's little more than just a nostalgic Spielberg tribute. Also, the film reuses sounds from previous films? Tell me the unseen creature rustling through the trees, and some of the roars did not remind you of Jurassic Park. That said, I love Jurassic Park and most certainly did not mind the similarities in sound.

2) To be honest? The "mysterious creature" bit did have me really interested. Not knowing what the hell it was definitely kept the suspense alive. Before the reveal, I had a feeling that it was either going to be an alien, or some sort of nanobot/technology gone wrong (the strange metal cubes!).

3) The kids did a great job, IMO.

I give Abrams credit, for the first half of the movie, he go the feel of the early Spielberg movies down & it really worked then. Second half of the movie was a little too J.J. Abrams for me. And I say this as someone who generally likes J.J. Abrams' work.

Also, wanted to add that Elle Fanning didn't scream annoyingly like her older sister did when she was dealing with aliens.

That and "The Case" may have been the best independent short-film EVER.

What about the second half made you dislike it? I thought it was pretty cohesive, adn the progression made sense. If anything, the sympathetic alien is a Spielberg them that pops up in way to many of his movies.
