Sun shade sail installation

I am looking to install a sun shade sail over my deck. I don't have much for shade in my backyard and the sun just beats down and makes the deck un-usable at times. I looked into building a pergola but those were expensive so I thought the sun sail was a better option.

Anyone have any experiences installing them? Are there concerns about them holding up with the wind?

We put one up on our pergola a couple of years ago. Super easy to install with a couple of tensioning hooks. We put it up at the beginning of the year and although we cringe at the super high winds it holds up.

I would say its more of a vinyl traiangle or a sqaure, but whose counting.

Love mine. Couple considerations...

- I did luckily take mine down before the derecho. It survived the last two summers of wind.
- I do take it down for winter.
- I had a bear of time coming up with a support pole that I liked for my outer connections. Two corners connect to my siding on my house and I ended up with using long 4x4s attached to my deck.
- I miscalculated the best position to block the sun in the peak of summer. Do a dry fit and make sure you get the shade where you want it on the deck.

Second this.

Take it down when big rains or wind is anticipated. I do that and don’t have trouble. Make sure there are good supports for it. I put several 2x4s in the corners of my deck to anchor mine. And I bought some better clips than the ones they sent me that are easier to take on and off. The lumber to build the posts and hardware will potentially cost more than the shade itself but you want that baby secure
