MLB: Strasburg has a torn ligament

This actually may not be a bad thing for him. Pitchers usually come back stronger after having Tommy John surgery.

I thought they were pretty careful with him but he threw a lot of innings in college didn't he?

Probably better for the Nationals in the long run. Allow him to come back closer to the time that Harper is ready. It's alot better that it's a ligament issue than a nerve problem. The success with Tommy John surgery has to be up over 95% these days. He will be back, and probably better than ever.

a little info on these surgeries too... ANYBODY who has every pitched a significant amount has some sort of tearing or fraying of this ligament. That's why pitchers normally come back throwing harder, combined with the rehab to strengthen the muscles around the ligament, it is often the strongest and healthiest the ligament has ever been for them.

I can't say that I didn't see this one coming. With all the media hype, I just knew somehow this guy would find a way to disappoint and get injured like he did.

I feel bad for him. He was very promising. It seems like the it's a split with pitchers coming back from that surgery and being as good or better. Time will tell.

I don't think he has disappointed, I think he has pitched well and seems to have a pretty level head. From watching him pitch and being interviewed, he has impressed me. To me an injury isn't a disappointment, I would classify it as unfortunate. I dunno, maybe that's what you meant.
