Stoops not getting it done in bowls

pretty sure that is 4 consecutive bcs losses, most by blowout. should have won last year but blew it to boise state.

4-5 overall with wins in the 2001 Orange (FSU), 2002 Cotton (Arkansas), 2003 Rose (Wazzu) and 2005 Holiday (Oregon).

Losses are 1999 Independence (Miss), 2004 Sugar (LSU), 2005 Orange (USC), 2007 Fiesta (Boise) and 2008 Fiesta (WVU).

I would kill (gonna start keeping a list) to be 4-5 in those 9 bowls....

-keep.

This has to simply be a case of him not getting his teams ready to play in these big games. The last four years you could easily make a case that OU was playing some of the best football in the country at the end of the year. Then they come out and look like a completely different team in the BCS.

Bradford looked rattled all night though. His youth really showed, but the OLine didn't give him much time and the running game seemed pretty inconsistent.

I couldn't help but laugh at that on-side kick in the middle of the 3rd quarter which swung the momentum from OU to WVU for the rest of the game.

It sucks really. Oklahoma wins the Big 12 so often and then botches their bowls. What does that look like to the rest of the conferences when our champion sucks? I only wanted Oklahoma to win this game for the good of the B12. But in my mind I was glad they lost because of Stoops.

Just wondering how you can win the 2005 Holiday bowl and lose the 2005 Orange?

Jan 2005 Orange bowl - for the 2004 season
Dec 2005 Holiday bowl - for the 2005 season

What I don't understand is that I've heard several talking heads refer to Stoops as "Big Game Bob" for his penchant for winning big games. WTF?????? I think a 1-4 record in his last 5 bowl games, getting hammered by USC for the title a few years ago, the horrible beatdown to KSU in the Big 12 title game, and the terrible decisions last night (going for 2 with 21+ minutes left, the onside kick) will pretty much kill that nickname for good.

Two point conversions, onside kick, running wide, blitzing a running QB, taking the 5 yd. penalty on a punt,-- this was a poorly coached game by the ex-hawkeye.

Stoopsie can coach...in 9 years at OU he is 96-21. The 10 years immediately preceding his hiring, OU was only 61-50-3. He has won a National Championship. He has won or tied for the Big 12 South Championship 6 of the 9 years and was second or tied for second the other 3 years...59-12 overall in Big 12 play! His teams have played in a BCS bowl 6 of his 9 years...winning 2 of the BCS bowls.

The thing that impressed me most is that last night he flat-out admitted that he got out-coached...he will certainly make changes to his bowl preparations in the future. I would not start counting on the demise of OU football under Bob Stoops.

The scary thought is that had Iowa not jerked him around in their hiring process, he would probably be coaching the hawkeyes now. Of course, as any hawk fan will tell you, Ferentz is a much superior coach to Stoops...HAHA!

I will admit that Stoops coached a horrible game last night, but I would also argue that most of the time, he is a hell of a coach. His records show it. He doesn't always stink it up in big games. He's won a National Championship and a few other major bowls. You can't always win, otherwise everyone would be national champions every year. It just doesn't always go your way. (Last night it didn't go OU's way because of the questionable 2-point conversions that failed and the DUMB (early) onside kick (after a failed two-point conversion nonetheless!!)).

Stoops wouldn't do any better at Iowa than Ferentz is. OU is so loaded with players they could win 9 games a year without a coach.

My Father in Law is a huge Oklahoma fan, he grew up there, and he's getting really tired of Stoops losing in bowls. He even goes so far as to say that he's not worth the money they are paying him and he's said it repeatedly. It's funny to see him get riled about it.
