I cannot remember a crosstown classic that has been hyped (well as hyped as I can tell by reading the Sun-Times and watching CSN from my perch in Des Moines) as much as this one has. In the end I see this series being split 3-3 after the conclusion of next weekend. However, I would love nothing more than to see the Sox take 2 of 3 from the Cubs @ Wrigley. Here are the probable matchups for the weekend!!

John Danks (4-4, 2.90) vs. Ted Lilly (7-5, 4.76) - Danks hasn't lost a start in nearly a month. He was a tad shakey in his last start agains the Rockies, but has been been getting little to no run support lately. The Cubs have never faced Danks.
Jose Contreras (6-5, 3.24) vs. Jason Marquis (5-3, 4.24) - Contreras is coming off his two worst outtings of the year (against the Tigers & Rockies), so he'll be looking to rebound.
Javier Vasquez (7-5, 4.13) vs. Ryan Dempster (8-2, 2.76) - Another Sox starter that struggled his last time out, against the Pirates. Vasquez has never won a decision against the Cubs in three previous starts.

Come on Sox, let's get that pitching on track and hush up those north-siders!! Should be a couple good series these next two weekends, but I'll be glad when they're over.

After watching how TB's pitching shut down the Cubs offense I will admit that I am worried.

However, the Cubs have played EXTREMELY well at home... And I expect that to continue. It will be a great series. I wish I could watch today, but alas work gets in the way again.

I too will be at work, but I'll have the MLB gameday internet thing going. One of these days I'll spring for that XM subscription so I can actually listen to the day games at work.

The Cubs at home this year have been pretty good I will admit. I can definitely see the Sox getting swept or only winning one game. The offense cannot go back into their hole they've been frequently hiding in. I don't know if I've ever seen a team (the Sox) that has been this hot and cold in the same month (scoring 37 total against the Pirates this week while scoring 6 total against the Tigers last week, both in three game sets).

Ok, I know we must have some MLB stat junkies out their. Have these two been in the standing this high at the same point that they have played one another?

A showdown first: Both in first :: The SouthtownStar :: Sports

This Cub fan doesn't care that they're playing the White Sox. I'm not from Chicago, and have no feelings for the White Sox either way. I just want to see the Cubs rebound from a bad road trip with a strong showing against another tough team.

The momentum is definitely on the south siders' side, but momentum in baseball is only as good as your next day starting pitcher. Danks has had problems going deep in games. With how patient the Cubs are, I'm worried about that.

Also, I'm concerned about the kind of lineup we're going to trot out against Lilly today. We'll have no Thome, no PK, AJ facing a lefty (or Toby Hall and then no AJ), and a Joe Crede hitting .100 against lefties. Danks is going to have to be on his game, I'm afraid.

Nobody hits in that dump in Tampa Bay.

Yep, but their ERA's are significantly higher on the road.

Probably because they can't concentrate if they don't hear those dudes with the cowbells every 30 seconds...

On a side note, I was taking in the Cubs game last night and at some point during the last third of the game the camera switched to the guys by "the ray pen" and showed them covering it quickly. The broadcasters made it seem like there was something going on, like the player batting was going to try and hit the string ray with a foul ball or something. It just seemed like a weird exchange to me, did anybody else see that??

When I read the thread title, I was hoping for a CyBookie event for a series from 6/13 - 6/15. I just might have to go all in on that one.
