3:41 p.m. Regarding the LaRoche-Kotchman deal, FoxSports writes: "The Red Sox's motivation in adding Kotchman is not as clear. Kotchman is an outstanding fielder, and the Red Sox's defense would improve if he were at first and Kevin Youkilis got the majority of playing time over Mike Lowell at third. Martinez, under that scenario, presumably would get most of his at-bats at catcher and DH."

But a bigger deal, for Toronto ace Roy Halladay, fell apart when Boston refused to part with both Buchholz and reliever Daniel Bard.

Okay, I'm super excited for the deals that did happen, but really? That just pisses me off. :arghh:

I'm glad we didn't part with our two top pitching prospect for another 1.5 years (max) of Halladay. Hallady is awesome, no doubt, but he is also getting up there in years (32), and has pitched a ton of CG (44). He is a season-ending injury ready to happen.

Masterson was a class act and I was sad to see him go, but it was getting painfully obvious we needed another competent bat. I like V-mart's $7.7 million team option for 2010 as well.
