Alfonso Soriano upset over latest benching -- chicagotribune.com

"That's a surprise to me today," Soriano said. "I think he could have said to me last night, 'OK, take a day off,' especially because [Thursday] is an off day. I'd be like, 'OK, I'll take the two [days].' But I like to know before I come here."

For $18 mil a year you should show up to play EVERY day regardless if you are in the lineup or not. Also it doesn't help your case when you are batting .182 over your past 40 games either...

i say let him ride the bench until after the all star break

I dont see a difference in paying him 18 mil to suck and 18 mil to sit the bench so might as well let the younger players that actually want to be there play

Absolutely. Put Fox, Fuld, or Hoff out there. I guarantee they won't ***** about their spot in the starting line up too.

You're right about that, but there is a better than even chance that Soriano makes the play that Fox whiffed on yesterday.

Then again, maybe not.

Possibly. I guarantee you Fox won't pull a hammy (steroid) doing a stupid hop to catch a ball though.

Seriously, what does the guy expect when he is batting .182 for 25% of the freaking season?? They could bring up an A-ball player who could do that...while paying him $17.6 mil less per year.

Do you guys want him to be happy that he is being benched? I certainly don't. I really don't see the big deal in this.

I want him to work on getting better not pouting over it. It's one thing to be mad, its another to spin it as motivation not to have it happen frequently. So he got 2 hits the day before, whoppity dodaa! He's still 5 for 21 in July with 3 K's, just 1 extra base hit, and no walks. When he starts hitting for some consistency and power then he can talk. Use that anger to prove to Lou you don't deserve to be benched more instead of pouting about it and saying things like if you knew you weren't going to play you wouldn't show up ready to play. Even on the bench you have to be ready to play every day because a guy can get hurt or you may need to pinch hit or be a part of a double switch on a given moment.
