Today, Hy-Vee was offering free breakfast for veterans. That, in itself was a nice offering. It got better.

My wife is an RN at the VA her in Des Moines and told me this story. If you're familiar with the area, there is a Hy-Vee a few blocks away from the campus. Most, if not all, vets were not able to make it down for breakfast.

A Respiratory Therapist caught wind of this and decided to see what she could do. She called the Hy-Vee at the corner of MLK and Euclid. Within the hour, Hy-Vee had cooked extra food and delivered eggs, bacon, sausage and pancakes to the VA. All so that the vets that aren't in good enough shape could get a free breakfast.

I thought it was a great gesture. I just thought I'd pass it along.

The management and employees at the MLK/Euclid Hy-Vee have been known for their generosity before.

Without being specific they helped out a non-profit I was involved with years ago on 90 minutes notice and thanked us for letting them help us when we sheepishly showed up looking for any help we could find.

The popular nickname for the MLK/Euclid Hy-Vee is "Little Bosnia". Maybe those of us in the area should re-brand them as "Little America" because they always seem to help out when there are people who are in need, or need to be honored.

They (The company, the management, the employees) of the MLK/Euclid store are for the most part, wonderful.

Are we all forgetting the travesty that was the Hawkeye display at the Hy-Vee in Cedar Rapids???? BOYCOTT!!
