sledgehammer??

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet...

I was sitting up in section N with my buddies, having a good time and cheering on the Clones as they ran out of the tunnel, when one of us said, "hey, what is that down there...is that a sledgehammer?" Sure enough, one of our guys was waving a sledgehammer around and brought it into the big team huddle. After the huddle broke one of the assistant coaches took it and leaned it on the bench on about the 50 or 45, where it stayed most of the game.

We thought it was pretty funny, and it definitely worked the first half. Did anyone else see or notice this?
 
I saw it as well...figured it was for Chizik to use if one of our guys got a personal foul:idea:

I'm assume it is a lot like the teams that have a lunch bucket or other stuff like that as a symbol for how they want to play. My only question is it a symbol for hard work or hard hitting.
 
Possible connection...

When he coached the outstanding d-lines for the Buccaners in the late 90's and beyond, Rod Marinelli was famous for the phrase "pound the rock". He went so far as to have a large granite boulder delivered to the locker room to motivate players to keep pounding away.

Chizik credits much of his defensive knowledge to information that he picked up while hanging out at Buc's practices. I'm guessing that he crossed paths with Marinelli along the way and has borrowed a few ideas including the benefit of "pounding the rock".
 
I loved watching Sandvig during those kickoffs, especially when we were rolling in the first half. He was having a great time, running around, pumping up the crowd, pretty fun to watch.

I noticed the same thing. I really like his energy this year!

What better symbol is there than a sledgehammer to symbolize all that is hardcore and tough? I don't know about you guys, but I certainly think that sledgehammer has the guys playing tougher. Something was done during that off weak, because the team I saw this week was far and above what I've seen the previous weeks.
 
Maybe a player could enlighten us? Looked like a "mini" sledge (what I'd just call a really big hammer) on the Gene Chizik show--and was it gold? Symbolism?

I don't want to be a hater but the term "pound the rock" refers to running the ball.
 
Our HS coach used to award the sledgehammer to each player for the (clean) big hit of the game. That person got to hang it outside his FB locker.

Then some whiny, puny little excuse of a person from outside the team found out and complained, then it was over. This was the early 90s when the PC movement started to take off.

Glad to see the Clones having fun with this....
 
A few years ago didn't Jack Del Rio have an axe for the Jaguar players to swing at a big log or something until the kicker got hurt with it?
 
When I was playing the person who made the biggest hit in the game got the sledgehammer for the week. I know I got it once cause I knocked myself and a Missouri guy out.
