Simeon Carter - ISU Wildcard?

The DMRegister talked up Carter before last season. I think he's capable of being a wild card, but his stock also has the most helium for a guy who hasn't played much.

Got to think he didn't get much time last year because his game wasn't Big12 ready.

The author is a fun guy. He did an M.A. here at ISU.
He's really optimistic, sometimes homerish, but has a great general approach to Cyclone athletics.
He's been finding ways to write this stuff for a couple years now. It's neat to see that he's appearing in bigger outlets.

I have not thought of him as a wildcard because I haven't heard much about his improvement over the summer. I can't remember, did we here much about Naz before his breakout?

The ISU basketball Facebook page says Kasongo will sit out this year after transferring. I thought he was a grad transfer? I think we need Simeon to be ready to go this year.

Word was his maturity level had a long way to go. I'd say it would be pleasant but still a surprise if he will contribute yet. But if so, great for him, and the team!

Merrill Holden and Darrell Bowie are the grad transfers. Ray Kasongo is a sit out transfer.

Minutes for Carter last season was really my only (small) gripe with how Coach Prohm managed things last year. It was obvious redshirting Simeon was not going to happen, so why not get him some blocks of time in the non-con to see what he could do in games and have some game film to use to further his development?

I realize Coach isn't a dummy and saw what Carter could/couldn't do in practice every day, but sometimes it doesn't start to click unless the bullets are live. Simeon looked very green at times when he did play, but with McKay seemingly in the dog house and Burton unable to play until late December, I thought he could get valuable minutes against Chicago State or Buffalo, etc. and then later in the conference season when one of the bigs were gassed or in foul trouble we had someone who could give us 2-3 minute stretches. Seems like he could have been Dustin Hougue like (crashing boards and making hustle plays) for a couple minutes - just tell him don't foul, don't shoot anything but a layup/dunk, and come back in 3 minutes with zero energy.

I hope Simeon is able to make the leap we need him to make for the sake of depth and knowledge of Prohm's system that should benefit the team. I will be rooting for him to make a larger contribution this season!

I'm interpreting that as Coach Prohm sending a message to him about what he expects in terms of effort and/or focus. If he got that message, it could pay off.

This is an easy thing to say and it seems like a simple thing for a player to do, but it just isn't, especially in Big 12 games. I think the fact that we didn't see Simeon in that role is a pretty clear indication that he wasn't doing the right things in practice to prepare him for game time in that role. I hope he's refocused and ready to go this year.

Simeon's biggest problem was that he didn't join the team until right when fall classes started. Most incoming freshman get all summer in the program to get a head start.

Also, I believe Kasonga has 2 years left after he sits out this season. His profile on Cyclones.com says he played 1 year of JUCO and 1 year at Tennessee.

Simeon has such a lively personality that he is a perfect locker room guy. He'll contribute on the court eventually, but even if he doesn't, I still love having this kid on the team.
