Shouldnt we be taking a hard look at those

It definitely wouldn't hurt to go after some of them, although many Nebraska players commit to the program and not the coach.

Maybe this will give us another shot at Dan Hoch, the highest rated recruit out of the state for 08... plus it wouldn't hurt to pick up a highly regarded offensive lineman!! :)

We have been looking at his "little" Sophomore brother. 6-2 215 baby face. He is much quicker and plays hard. Started both ways last week for Harlan as a Sophomore. (he did'nt play the whole game both ways, Harlan started the game with a full house backfield with "little" Hoch as a blocking back) I have never seen a sophomore start both ways. Now is the time to get in sophomores heads.

Completely disagree......i think 90% of the kids today base their decision on three things

1. Coaching staff and where somebody feels the most comfortable.

2. Program success/TV: most athletes at this level want to be on tv so friends and family can watch games from afar.

3. Playing time - whos ahead of them on the depth chart and how soon will they either leave or can you take their spot.

Saying the athlete committs to the program - no way......If that were the case, then every midwest athlete would committ to Nebraska.....what about Phillip Bates.....

What about Phillip Bates?

Well, he committed to Iowa State under McCarney. And then McCarney left.

And playing time wasn't immediately available, and may not be clearly for Bates until his senior year. And we have no success and we're on TV less than UNI.

But then he recommitted to Iowa State with a new coaching staff.

So really, it seems he might have liked our program and Iowa State in general.

Bates committed to McCarney the recruiter. Then, decommitted from McCarney the coach. Finally, Bates committed to Chizik's recruiting and resume.

The Hoch kid is a Nebraska fan. In that case he did commit to the program and not the coach. I agree it's normally the coach that the player commits to but in this case the kid likes NU. The reason they brough in Tom Osbourn is to bring back a guy everyone knows.

I think Chizik is going to be able to make some progress in the Omaha area. We have gotten some good kids from there in the past, everything going on out there now can only improve our chances.
