Should Iowa State be looking for an up-and-comer?

On some level, everyone expected Chizik to use the Iowa State job as a stepping stone. A new up-and-coming type coach would likely be aspire to an Auburn-type job. Turner Gill would undoubtedly love a shot at the Nebraska job if he got one.

Should Pollard test his luck again?

I would really be interested in hearing what other type of coach you think we could get. To me, Turner Gill is the least "up and comer" type of coach, in terms of head coaching experience, that we have the chance at...

You get some one who will build the program and win. It really doesn't matter to me if it's an up and comer or someone who's been around the block.

It would be great if we could find a football coach kinda like the current Wisconsin basketball coach. That guy cut his teeth in division 3 and a lot of people didn't think he could cut it at the next level, and he's done quite well.

To be honest with you, I have no clue how many viable candidates there are or who they are. I read what everyone else does and don't have much other insight. But an older coach, or just a coach that appreciates the intangibles of this job, is what I was alluding to.

I'll say this: a business-man like Pollard is looking for something he can sell. He'd love to sell Turner Gill right now, but what is best for the long-term?

When you say things like this it is like saying... We need someone ****** enough so that the will be happy in coming to Ames. We want someone that is just barely better than what we probably deserve.

Now... is this the attitude that will lead us where we want to be with our football program?

No. I'm saying there are many coaches whose stock may not be high, but still may be great coaches. Where would Chizik be in two years if he had two bad seasons and got canned? Judging sex appeal isn't the way to find the best woman, in my opinion.

Ya'll might disagree on that one.

I definitely understand where you're coming from. But you have to remember, that when Chizik came in, he was expected to be a long term type of guy unless...um... Auburn, or the like, came calling. But everybody was ok with that because that would have meant we had some success to build upon for the next coach.

Now, here we are, and Pollard thought he had a couple of slam dunk hires in both MBB and FB. Regardless of all he's done for the other sports, or the facilities, these two sports are going to be what he is going to be judged on. We've gone throught some of the worst times in these two main sports in quite a while (remember, I'm young. But so are a lot of other ISU fans). The next football coach he hires WILL determine whether he stays or goes. He can't afford to think, "Who will be here for the long haul," again. He needs a guy that will bring some sort of success, or at least marked improvement, right away.

I want a coach that is in it for the long haul! I dont care what their status is so long as they want to be at ISU and bring us some seasons to be proud of.

I hate to break it to you... Then you want someone just barely capable of keeping us at exactly the level we are right now.

ISU is a stepping stone... it will be for a long time... bottom line.

I not once said I wanted them here forever. Long haul for me is 4 or so years being as Im not so stupid as to think that ISU isn't a stepping stone.

Do what we did to get orr. Find a big name guy and give him whatever the hell he wants. I'm being serious, it's worked before
