There has been talk after the epic win that this team could become a dynasty similar to the Cowboys of the 90's.

The Seahawks are one of the youngest teams that have gone to and won a Super Bowl.

The salary cap, the NFC West, and coaching attrition will have an effect, but this franchise seems to develop players very well.

Their defense is sooo dominant and Wilson will improve every year. So it is a very good possibility they could become a new football dynasty.

Opinions?

Pretty good piece detailing the cap crisis Seattle will have coming after next year:

Super Bowl Swan Song «

They are going to still be very good next year, but they can't really add any long term salary and they're going to have to start making some tough choices after 2014.

There are no dynasties anymore. The NFL doesn't like that. They would rather all the teams be around 8-8 with all the fanbases hoping for the playoffs than have a routine distribution of good to bad teams that never change. Free agency, draft position, and the cap also play a huge factor in the crackup of championship teams, as does weighted game schedules.

Most good teams get about a three year window to compete for a championship before the odds swing in the other direction.

Russel Wilson made $527,000 in salary this year which is less than Manning made per game. He will more than likely command $100 million once his rookie contract expires after next year. With that kind of cap hit it is not likely they can resign all their free agents.

Free agency and the salary cap make it very difficult to maintain a long run of dominance. As soon as you commit to a couple of really large contracts you have trouble keeping a lot of key players

1st off, it takes a lot more than winning ONE Super Bowl before you can talk "DYNASTY".
Remember, Seattle was barely a 3 point winner over S.F.! And S.F. was barely a 3 point winner over G.B.! Plus, next year Seattle will get to start talking to Russell Wilson about another contract. The fact they get to have a quality starting qb while only paying him a rookie salary is in deed a bonus & a luxury. But wait til they have to pay him which will take money away from other positions on the team.
Talk about putting the cart in front of the horse!

There will be a lot of guys on Seattle that outplayed their contracts, and expect to get paid accordingly next year. If they don't get what they want, it'll turn into holdouts and guys taking it easy until they get paid. It seems to happen to every SB winner.

Thanks for the post but the author of the article is wrong that Seahawks are in "Cap Heaven" this yr. They have 3.3 mill in Cap Space and 51 players under contract. Some of their notable pending FA's are DE Michael Bennett, RT Breno Giacomini, WR's Golden Tate and Doug Baldwin, DB's Brandon Browner and Walter Thurmond and K Steven Hauschka.

FA's in 2015 CB Richard Sherman (you know he will command #1 CB money), S Earl Thomas, DE Cliff Avril, DE Chris Clemons and SB MVP LB Malcolm Smith

FA 2016 the big one Russell Wilson

Those are just a few of the names that jumped out at me looking over things quickly. But I think you can quickly get an idea of the kinds of decisions Seattle will have to make. And they won't have the Cap Flexibility going forward to develop the young talent like they had the previous 3-4 yrs. They will be tight against the Cap going forward and they will need each player to make an impact.

Here is a good Salary Cap site with a nice Cap Calculator

Salary Cap Calculator - Over the Cap

This is Seattle 2014 Salary Cap Calculator - Over the Cap

Just some info on that site. You can see the current year by clicking on "Team Salary Cap" drop down at the top. If you do that the Cap Calculator will be a link on the right hand side of each teams page.

Who do you think the Seahawks will have no choice but to keep?

To me the top 3:
Russel Wilson
Richard Sherman
Earl Thomas

This is where the GM makes or breaks your team.

The Adderall Dynasty. Anyone who watched that game last night could see how hopped up on Addy those guys were. I can't believe that's an allowable substance 'with prescription'.

I would say those are must keeps. I would also add in one of their 3 pass rushers Avril, Clemons and Bennett. Bennett is prob gone in FA this off season unless they make some cuts. Avril and Clemons are in the last yr of their deals. It wouldn't surprise me if they A) Restructure one of Avril/ Clemons this off season and wait it out with the other OR B) cut one of Avril / Clemons and restructure the other.

If they end up signing both Avril/ Clemons this off season or next and sign Sherman and Thomas next off season that probably eats up all their 2015 cap space.

That's interesting, but I don't know how much you can make of it. It looks more to me like people are fans of the teams that get shown on their local TV, which might not be much of a distinction.

There are a couple of things in there that are interesting, though: Looks like some substantial Packer love out in Cornhusker land, and WTH is up with the Steeler love in N and S Carolina?

Sherman seems like a candidate to hold out this offseason, if he wants attention and all. Its gonna be hard to keep the depth on the defensive line after extending him or Wilson. Same thing happened to GB a few years ago, and the Ravens last year after Flacco had to get paid.

Such a foolish statement. I was prescribed adderall as an adolescent and there is no way they could take that during a game. The toll that drug takes on your heart would make it impossible to compete at such a high level physically. Dig a little deeper, this whole adderall fad in professional sports isn't about the adderall at all. It's typically used to mask the appearance of other drugs such as PED's.

Are we forgetting that Russell Wilson was selected 1222nd overall in the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft? The only thing left for him to achieve now is a World Series ring?
