Is there some rule that the student sections have to stand all game long? Just curious, happens every year!!!!!
Seriously though, most of us got past the "standing throughout the entire game" phase when we left high school.
Standing is reserved for the most important times in the game.
Yep, unfortunately it is the same rule that says only half the number of students go to the games compared to the early eighties.
I really hope people stand more during next Saturday's game and that they are louder. We have good numbers but need more noise when other teams are threatening.

Standing and cheering when the game is going on gives the players a lift. If you look at Texas A&M their fans stand the entire game, and that is one of the reasons their fans are called the "12th Man".

Disagree as much as you like, but you're not getting me to stand up all damn game long unless we're pistol-whipping Texas/OU/enter another perennial powerhouse here.

Is this the "hey, I'm bored on Saturday night, so I think I'll complain about fans that aren't me, even though there's no real evidence that I stand the whole time, either" thread?

It really is ridiculous. Why the f are you there if you can't even stand up and cheer when we score a freakin td?!
Agreed, but that is more than just when the crowd is instructed to on 3rd down. For example, on a key series; the corwd should be up and loud for all 4 downs. I've been a part of great crowds at ISU games. I would love to see vs. TT 2002 and vs. CU 2005 type crowds every week.

I agree. A lot of us up in the stands (the ones paying attention to the game, anyway) are smart fans and know the key points in the game and when to be screaming our heads off.
My section sits for a lot of the game, section 17, but I stand. I just prefer it, I find it easier to focus on whats happening. I don't really care what they do as long as they don't try to tell me what to do, which so far hasn't been a problem.

I didn't just make that up. On Thursday, the 10 rows behind us were sitting after we scored. We yelled at them. Sit during timeouts. Otherwise, get off your lazy ***!

You'll see revkah and I standing a lot in section 18. That's just something we like to do, and we see better. Plus, we like to yell.
Yeah, yelling at them is going to work. Leave the arrogance at home. Everyone is going to approach the game differently, and they aren't all looking at it your way. Not right or wrong, just different.
I never judge a fan by how much they stand during a game because it's not my opinion to judge and I don't know their story. I used to sit by a guy who I'm sure thought he was "super fan" and he was always standing. The only problem is that he was standing and ******** constantly and then when something went right he would say "see I told you".
On the other hand I had older people(in their 80's) sitting behind me who probably gave 10K+ plus per year and have been going to games for 30+ years. So out of respect for them I would only stand when something big happened or people were standing in front of me.
If you think standing makes the players play better then go ahead but from someone who has played before I can tell you that when I played I payed no attention to whether fans were standing or not. It was more important to me that the fans were loud and there were a lot of them there.

Everyone shoudl be in the game and standing when the can, but can we stop these I am a better fan threads.

Why does it matter if you stand or not? Do the players look into the stands to see who is standing and play differently because of that? I have older people that sit behind me so I try to sit when I can so they can see. I am probly standing half the game. If that makes me less of a fan than I guess come tell me that during a game.
I'm sorry, but when you get older, your body won't allow you to stand that long. I believe in standing on key situations, but standing just to be standing is a young person thing. I also do not think it is polite to block someones view of the game for no real reason.
I can see both sides of this debate. I wish our crowd was crazy for the whole game, but I can't see some of the older people at our games, standing for the whole thing. The issue I noticed was on the East side of the stadium how many empty seats there were between the 40 yard lines. Not sure why. I couldn't see the west side from Sec. C. Did anyone else notice this? Perhaps this is the first time I've really looked.
also, if everyone stands, not everyone can see. Most of the time, when everyone sits, everyone sees. General rule... be considerate those around you. Some may be older or may have kids who would be unable to see over you standing (even if they stand as well). If everyone is cool with standing the whole time (like in the student section) go for it... you cant expect a whole stadium to.
