Okay, allow me to preface this whole thing by stating the following:
  • I have coached a whopping grand total of zero football games.
  • My football career ended after 7th grade.
  • The closest I ever got to having any football scouting credibility was watching Ellis Hobbs on special teams in the 2001 Independence Bowl and telling everyone who wasn't there that he was going to be very good.

That being said, I am very excited that Iowa State has started landing recruits from the Jacksonville, FL area. I plan to go watch D.A. Williams this Friday against Nease (crosstown rival, Tebow's HS team, now coached by former UF and NFL QB Shane Matthews) and Nigel Tribune in October against the Bolles School (probably the most football rich HS program in the area, if not the state). I'll report back what my amateur football eyes see.

Question: who are the fans in your sig picture and what are they thanking us for? They don't look like Alabama fans.

Dude on the left is wearing an Oregon t-shirt, so I'm assuming it's Oregon right before they got crushed by USC.

Correct. It was the game the day after we beat Okie State. Oregon never made it to the BCS championship.

Not much to report from Friday. Got there late, left early, and Nease did not put up much of a fight.

D.A. Williams played corner Friday night. Nease did not throw much, and when they did, it was to the other side of the field. When they ran, their backs didn't get into the secondary.

What stood out to me, though, is that D.A. did everything. Played corner, receiver, covered kick-offs, applied punt pressure. He blocked a PAT in their opening game two weeks ago, too. Very athletic player.

On offense, he showed a nice second gear and good hands. I imagine if he was taller, he might get some looks from schools as a receiver.

I had to nit pick to find any negatives. On offense, when the run went away from D.A.'s side, he sort of took the play off. I can't knock him, though. He's coming to Ames as a DB. That and he never left the field except for halftime. I was a little surprised that he wasn't in the band, too.

Hopefully, I'll get to another game when St. Augustine faces some better competition.

Ahhhhh, that explains it! I saw the Oregon sweatshirt but forgot about their aspirations before the USC game. Thanks!
