I’m surprised to see no discussion on the podcast, but I really enjoyed it. I am definitely glad we have Matt Campbell but thankful for Coach Rhoads and all of the memories he brought us. Coach Rhoads is a great Cyclone, in my opinion, and I don’t really care for the haters.

I wasn't aware of the podcast. I don't see an announcement post, with the url, here. I'll look again. Maybe others are unaware of the podcast, too.

I completely agree and am thankful for Coach Roads. He was the right coach at the right time and brought enthusiasm to the program following a bad taste from Chizik.

Loved CPR but if only what?

There's no point in going into the "if only's". I just feel for Coach Rhoads and still think that he was a lot closer to being very successful here than lots of folks think.

CPR was (is) a great guy, and I am thankful for all he did and tried to do, and especially thankful for how he took care of his players.

That said, he had some serious deficiencies as a head FB coach, as do about 95% of all head FB coaches. That's all been discussed ad nauseum.

My point is, we can love the guy, and still admit he didn't get it done.

Agree.

Paul's comment on Beilima's "high character" must mean Bret cleaned up his act from his Badger days.

Also a little surpised that Paul had no mention of the current ISU staff's success, even if it was in passing.

I was (and am) a big fan of Rhoads. Great podcast.

I'd love to run into him at a bar and talk to him over some beers for a few hours. Fascinating guy.

1. If you believe Campbell’s line about coming here because of the great atmosphere, you’ve got to give rhoads a big part of the credit there.

2. Rhoads was not helped by the conference realingnment. Right when he could have made headway, everyone thought we were going to crappy conference.

He had several things that really hurt his chances to succeed. He started with a pretty good coaching staff, but every time an assistant got hired away, he made a worse hire. Also the "Big 12 is finished" really hurt recruiting. Finally the guy had way too many guys quit and have career ending injuries. Some of that may or may not have been on him and his coaches, but when the season starts with 2-3 OL starters out for the season things are not going to go well.

Like Campbell a lot better, but there have certainly been coaches at ISU that have had much worse teams and records.

It was interesting to hear that Paul thought his biggest problem was recruiting the wrong character kids followed by his missteps with assistant hirings. Seems like if he would have gotten #2 right, #1 would not have happened.
