Santo misses HOF by 5 votes

I am sorry if this seems like a rant but this seriously makes me very angry and sad. I am bias because I am a huge Cubs fan.

But Ron Santo not in the baseball HOF is a terrible thing. He was 5 votes shy, this man had a stellar career with a terrible disease. He has lost two legs and has had his heart broken too many times! Either by the Cubs themselves or by the HOF committee. This is a joke in my opinion. Every two years this poor man gets teased with all of the HOFamers going on TV and saying. Ron should be in, Ron will get in. Then why is he not in the HOF?

On his stats along Santo was one of the greatest 3rd baseman of his time. He is right up there with most of the people already elected, some he is even better than. I am glad the Cubs at least retired his number, the day the did I cried and it was a joyous day. The veterans committee that does this votes every two years has NEVER elected anybody to the HOF. May they should just stop voting.

They have just announced a relook at the veteran's committee. Ron will be picked within a year. Maury Wills, Gil Hodges and others were stiffed.

There is seriously a problem with this committee indeed. I know I read somewhere that there is a possibility of it being dismantled after this year. I sure hope they do. I dont see how a Ventran cant make it in over the first year eligibal players.

Gil Hodges I agree was stiffed also. I just don't understand. Santo will probably get in. It just seems like they are waiting till he is dead.

Wonder if he ever did anything or said something about the committee or one of its members. It just doesn't make sense that Santo hasn't gotten in yet. Its truly ridiculous.

His disease and the fact that he is an amputee should not get him HOF votes. Frankly, these facts are immaterial.

His career numbers should be the material facts that are used to vote him in our not. His stats:

The ex-Cub that I think gets snubbed because of one play in his career is Bill Buckner. If you think Santo should be in, then Buckner is also deserving. And he played on a bum leg for most of his career. His stats:

I was sad to see Ron miss again. I'm a big Twins and Cubs fan and usually listen to Ron and Pat call the Cub games on the radio. Have you ever seen "This old Cub"?. I was produced by Ron's son and if you are a Santo fan you should check it out.

I saw the movie down at Sec Taylor two or three years ago. They put a big screen up in the infield and we stayed after the game to watch it. Not bad, but could've used a seasoned editor in the chopping room. The insights into his life were awe inspiring.

His son, the filmmaker was at the ball park that night as well. We stopped by on the way in at their souvenir table. He's a fair bit heavier than Ron at the same age, and more - shall we say - dissheveled. But he's a spit'n image of his old man, right down to the voice. I actaully heard him, before I saw the setup, and thought it was Ron.

I am not sure what they are waiting for with Ronny. It was good to see the Cubbies retire is number. I believe he said that was more important to him than the hall anyway. I would have to agree.
