San Fran Trip over Labor Day

just went last summer:

Pier 39 and just the whole Wharf area in general.
Ride a boat under the GG Bridge and around Alcatraz.
Get a City Sight seeing bus pass. There is about 5 routes. Buy a 48 hour pass and ride it a lot. Very informational and fun.
Coit Tower
See if the Giants are playing. If not, just go down and walk around the ball park. its pretty cool.
Lombard Street. Just drive down it, There will be a line and for the life of me....I couldn't imagine living there.
China Town
Painted Ladies.
Ride a Trolly

We saw a lot of these during the city sight seeing bus.

I rented a car and drove up the coast. Stopped by Sausalito and Tiburon. Then up to Stinson Beach. My wife and I ate right on the beach. HWY 1 is a death trap if you are not paying attention though.

Have fun.

Going over Labor Day weekend for vacation. Any experience or advice is greatly appreciated.
My wife and I were there last April.

We rented a car the first 3 days and went north and did Napa Valley (really enjoyed Calistoga), Sonoma, and Muir Woods and Muir Beach on way back to SF.

Before we took the car back to rental place we did places in SF that are a ways apart and cant walk to easily and is faster than public transportation- Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, Presidio, Twin Peaks, and Lombard Street.

After we took the car back the rest we could do by foot/trolly in SF- Embarcadero, Fishermans Wharf, Coit Tower, Alcatraz, SF Giants (they weren't in town so we went to Oakland to an A's game), Ghiradelli Square.

Things we wish we could have done but didn't have the time- spent more time in the Napa Valley/Sonoma. We were only there for 1 full day and that doesn't give you much time if you would like to stop at more than a couple wineries. Also wish we could have driven down along the coast to Carmel.

If you have any questions PM me. I will try to help.

We only had a day there on a huge driving vacation so we did one of the tour buses. The wharf area was expensive and crowded and my kids just preferred wandering around Chinatown than the entire wharf area, for what it is worth. One has a friend at Berkeley so we spent some time wandering campus too.

Used to live there. Great city.

-North Beach neighborhood is awesome. If you want a cool bar to visit, hit up Vesuvio. Lots of history there. Then find your way via foot to the best slice of pizza at Golden Boy. You won't regret it.

-Make your way north over the Golden Gate Bridge and visit Muir Woods National Forest and/or take a very winding but unbelievably beautiful drive down to the ocean and hang out/walk the beach in the village of Stinson Beach.

-lots of good food but maybe my favorite bar/restaurant is Harvey's in the Castro. Yes that's the gay district but that is a pretty up scale place and the food is unbelievably good.

-Make your way south of the city along the peninsula and go to Half Moon Bay.

It was really foggy when we there so we had to actually stand on the Golden Gate to even see the bridge at all.
