Sorry, Fanatics, if somehow I have missed this, but I don't see Rodney Coe on the official Iowa State Athletic Department roster and neither Rhoads nor Burnham have mentioned him when talking about the coming year. Can someone please update me on his status?

did he early enroll? I didn't think he got here until this summer

Is Coe projected to start? Would be nice to have him in practice already. For the young guys, getting bowl practices and all spring isn't a bad thing either.

I have trouble seeing him start since he will only have a month or so of actual practice, but I'm sure he will be on the field immediately, assuming everything we've heard about him is true.

Thanks for bringing this up. Was wondering why we hadn't heard anything about him this spring.

Sorry if this is a minor thread hijack... but wasn't Coe quoted as saying he wanted to redshirt once he got here? Or was that someone else? I've just heard it repeated again and again about how he will make an immediate impact, but that's kinda hard to do if he redshirts.

What's funny is he told Rhoads he would feel comfortable red shirting so he has more time to learn the position. I think he is a good athelete but he will struggle with technique for a little while since he has such little experience doing it imo.

I don't remember any talk about him red shirting but it wouldn't surprise me if he said that. And if he wants too they should let him, reason being 2014 is probably the year the incredible talent on both sides of the ball is truly ready to make an impact.

with the lack of experience up front I'd be shocked if he used his redshirt. Another solid uperclassmen will really help out.

This. I would be surprised if he redshirted. 6'3 285 pound Jr. who has been clocked at 4.7-4.8 for his 40, (given learning the spot) please get on the field ASAP.

If his talent is as reported, a redshirt is not a luxury that can be afforded. I think our 2015 depth will be very solid but its pretty shaky for 2013, so we're going to need Coe to produce quality minutes NOW.

Absolutely not ! In order to play in the DL at Iowa State, you have to have the correct technique. If Coe is not there yet, then a red-shirt is in order. Two productive years trumps learning on the job.

By DL do you mean all D-line positions or just on the interior? I ask because David Irving didn't redshirt and he was about as raw as they come.

The reason Irving didn't redshirt is because he is as big of an athletic freak as they come from what I heard. He may have been raw but he was just too athletic to not play when we needed athletes at the time.

Rhoads mentioned it in an interview when discussing the various recruits after signing day

He offered to RS and CPR said let's wait until you get here to make that decision.
If he DOES RS then that says good things about our talent and especially our depth at DE and DT. IMO

In the Juco Championsip game last year, a db for Coe's team picked off a pass and during the runback Coe took out the Opposing qb who threw the pick with a hard clean block that knocked the qb out of the rest of the game. I am very anxious to see him in Cardinal and Gold this fall.
