Full coverage of Jeremiah Williams' commitment.

A big upgrade over Tre and Jaden. This guy is going to fit in seamlessly on the defensive end and be able to spell Tyrese if need be with his handles. I think the roster got better today. Now let's go land some scoring and a big man!

Like the pickup, should shore up some of the ball handling issues this past year's roster had. At the very least ensures that if Tyrese is ever in foul trouble or sitting on the bench the floor is probably a lot higher. He can distribute the ball and play defense 1-3. If he ever becomes a good enough shooter from deep to warrant defensive attention, it'll be a nice bonus.

Still, time for TJ and his staff to go big game hunting with the remaining openings.

Welcome to CyclonAtion JW.
Really like the fit. Needed an additional ball handler for the team when Hunter needs a breather. Williams has already shown the defensive intensity that the staff wants plus at 6’5” he can defend 1-3 depending on the matchup the staff wants.

This is bigger than people give credit for. He was expected to land at Illinois. This is a steal for us.

Williams is the second best guard on the Iowa State roster for 2022/23, after Hunter. A 6'5" PG will be a great change of pace when Hunter needs a break. Could run Hunter and Williams together against teams that press a lot. Hopeful that this commit takes minutes from Gabe

Some thoughts on this commitment -
1) probably means less Lipsey minutes (as backup PG) that I was previously expecting. But I'm okay with freshman needing to force their way onto the floor

2) definitely doubles down on the defense first, second and third mentality from last year. From his highlights he's a hardnosed defender, tough attitude, versatile player that will fit in well

3) His shooting percentages are actually not far off from what Brockington was at Penn State, especially his sophomore year - shooting 50% on 2pt shots and ~27% on 3s. Williams does have more assists, steals and blocks. There's potential there to see a huge improvement, especially with the recent shoulder surgery.

4) He's got 2-years + a COVID year left, so he helps level the classes. With two more openings, I wouldn't be surprised if they are both grad-transfers (1 year)

I'm looking forward to seeing this guy play. Wouldn't be surprised if he's the first guy off the bench next year, or he could even start. He can distribute in the half court and create for himself, even if he's not a very good 3P shooter.
If he can get back to anywhere close to his pre-injury 3 point percentage (.324) he will be a threat. Being a legitimate threat (even .300) really opens things up on the inside for him and everyone else.
