One day after Ames High star Tamin Lipsey became the first official offer of the T.J. Otzelberger era at Iowa State, we have learned about the second.

Otzelberger re-offered 2022 four-star combo guard Eli King on Sunday, a source told Cyclone Fanatic late Sunday night. The Caledonia, Minn. native was offered by Iowa State’s previous staff last summer and is an AAU teammate of Lipsey’s with D1MN.

King, who is 6-foot-3 and weighs 185 pounds, is considered the No. 76 player in the nation in the 2022 recruiting class, the No. 12 combo guard and No. 2 prospect in the state of Minnesota, according to 247Composite. Otzelberger recruited and coached King’s older brother, Owen, at South Dakota State for the 2018-19 season.

King also holds offers from Iowa, Minnesota, Marquette, Northern Iowa and Stanford.

Stay tuned to Cyclone Fanatic for more on this story and full updates on Otzelberger’s initial recruiting trail work as the Cyclones’ head coach in the coming days.

Jared or anyone else for that matter - I believe I saw it before but can’t find it now.

When a university hires a new coach, are all scholarship offers under the previous administration revoked? Or is this just a formal “hey, we like you, your offer is still valid” type deal?

An offer is not an obligation until signing day. Otherwise, football might have 500 scholarships to fulfill each season!

We really have been missing a guy like this. Matt Thomas like shooter.

Am I missing something? There is nothing in that article about his shooting percentage, and the video Jared posted is literally him taking it to the hoop every single time, with a few of them of him dishing off assists. Doesn't sound or look like Matt Thomas to me, outside of his physical upper-Midwest white boy characteristics.

King is an absolute stud from a great family and it would be great to add him to the fold. All Caledonia does is win in pretty much everything, so he would bring an excellent attitude to Ames.

That said, I'm not getting my hopes up too much on Eli. That family and community pretty much thought the sun rose and set with TJ when Eli's older brother committed to SDSU, so they were disappointed when he left after one year with Owen and before Noah could get to campus. I hope I'm wrong, but I'd be pretty surprised to see them commit again. I don't think there are necessarily hard feelings, so maybe TJ can build back the relationship to where he had it before.

The good news is, the kid is just as good, if not better at football. (see offers from ND, Penn State, Stanford, etc) so if TJ isn't their cup of tea anymore, maybe MC will be.

Kids understand coaching changes better than fans. I am pretty sure Eli has said he is only going to play basketball in college.

I'm sure the family was disappointed when TJ left SDSU, but I'm also sure they understand TJ jumping from SDSU to UNLV to ISU.

I think fans see things like the MVC getting an at-large and DeVries extending and really underestimate just what a huge jump going from one of these mostly one-bid leagues to a power conference, or even a typically multi-bid league like the MWC. You saw a good example yesterday - Loyola is absolutely dominant this year (top 10 KenPom) and they are rewarded with an 8 seed.

I don't think anyone reasonable holds it against a coach bolting from the Summit, Horizon, or MVC to a better league as soon as the opportunity arises. I really doubt the kids or family do.

I'm not talking about fans' understanding, I'm talking about the family. As I said, it doesn't sound like the relationship is in ruins, so maybe TJ can get him.

Odds are he's going to play bball, but I hope MC stays in on him just in case there's a change of heart.
