First the quotes that deserve mention...

Our recruiting right now is almost on par with the Utes (even though they're starting to go through a significant talent upgrade because of the recent success and PAC 10 invite). They just have great coaches and recruit speed and develop it well. That's what we'll have to do.

Look at their recruiting classes from '07. Those are basically the players that beat ISU last night.

Another thing to look at is what Coach Whitt does with the talent... He typically recruits 2-3 QBs a year and turns them into defensive stars.

LB Chad Manis former QB, DB Brian Blechen former QB.... you think these guys know how to read a quarterback??

Utah's recruiting classes are pretty full of 2-3 star players. And they are light years ahead of us. Their QB is a sophomore, so he's been in the system as long as arnaud has, but he is clearly better. Wynn is actually quite good. They have a lot of studs on their team that were only 3 stars. Our "studs" can't match theirs.
its hard to critique rhoads' staff on such short notice, but the games are being played NOW and we are behind, Right NOW. We will talk about "later" when it comes.

Whittingham has also been at Utah most his career has 2 BCS games (co-head coach 04' Fiesta after Meyer decided to bail) under his belt and now can offer Pac 12 exposure... Give Rhoads the 8 years recruiting base that Whittingham has and then you can compare. I think its unfair to look at his recruiting until he has at least 6 years.

They have a better athletic site than we do. We could fix ours to be more up to date.

The Official Athletic Site of the University of Utah

47 from, Utah including 10 from Salt Lake City, three from Mich, one from Connecticut, three from Hawaii, three from Arizona, one from Nevada, one from Washington, one from Florida 15 from Texas, and 25 from California. Looks like local boys from Salt Lake City are 15% of their team. Maybe we need to recruit SLC.

Even since I attended '87-91 Utah has built it's Samoan connection and SLC now has the largest Samoan population outside Indonesia recently passing Hawaii. Say what you will about Mormons but they did get us the Samoan market. Which is one of the "ins" that the Pac10 wants the Pacific Asian market.

Freshman year I lived on the Football floor of the dorms and nothing like having a couple three or four 6' 8" Samoans having your back after a basketball win in hostile territory with their football players threatening to kick your ***...

Don't suppose you have any spare "Dave Krugers" lying around Utah that you don't need just now. We could use one or two.........

You mean Raven's Paul Kruger's little brother...

Lets see.. defensive stars with brother as Utah alumnus in the NFL...

Sorry no... you have to admit its a short list.

Good analysis. I'll be rooting for Utah over TCU. What's the outlook for that game? Mountain west game of the year, and if things pan out could be a major player in the BCS standings.

If both teams are undefeated we are expecting ESPN Gameday... Utah currently has a 21 game home steak thanks mostly to the MUSS (Mighty Utah Student Section), those guys are nuts... Expect home field to be the deciding factor, so Utah by 5 (that's a old traditional prediction from our BB glory days.)... 34-31 also carries a lot of history from our Holy War (Utah the non-secular University vs BYU the Mormon University.)

FYI... we are the antithesis of BYZoo and so any Mormon jokes are lost on us. Those are the jokes we use on BYU.

Talk about a thread derailment.

Anyway, in Laie on Oahu they have the Polynesian Cultural Center (created and run by the BYU-Hawaii school) and I learned about Samoa while there. They're the tree-climbing people. That's really all I learned. The Tahiti part was cooler, because it had the hot chicks that do the fancy hip shaking dance thing.

They must have pretty stout trees.

Ive already made several bets on this game. I'm picking Utah to win.
I'm rooting for Utah from here on out. I'd love if they could somehow meet Iowa in a BCS game.

I'd make jokes about how BYU going independent, but they're too easy. Seeing that Utah State game against them was amazing. Either BYU isn't very good this year or Utah State is better than I thought.
