I'm sure there have probably been numerous threads on this already, but I'm not on CF enough to read all of them...

What are your realistic expectations for the ISU men's basketball team this year? Do you think ISU is a overrated/underrated as a preseason Top 10 team?; do they finally end KU's Big 12 title streak?; does the team gel with Prohm?; are they a Final Four team? Just wanting to know what most of CF thinks.

As an outsider, I will be interested to see how Prohm does in his first year and how well he's able to get the guys to buy-in. From what I can tell, he seems to run a similar style offense to Hoiberg, so that should help with some of the growing pains of a new coach. Talent wise, I think ISU is probably a Final Four team, but I think it will come down to chemistry with Prohm and then the NCAA Tournament is all about match-ups.

As a UNI fan, I was a little disappointed to see Hoiberg leave as Jacobson always seemed to have a good gameplan on how to prepare for you guys - plus, Hoiberg seemed like a nice/genuine guy who was a good representative of ISU and the state as a whole (unlike Fran).

Anyway, just want to hear your thoughts on the upcoming season. Good luck this year (except for the UNI game), hope you guys can stay healthy and make some noise in March.

The goal is to de throne KU, but personally I'll be pleasantly surprised if it happens. They have the look of a really good KU team.

I do expect to finish 2nd though.

I don't make predictions on the tournament, until I see the bracket.

Tourney is too crazy to predict.

I think Ku, ISU, and Oklahoma are all very similar, so I don't think the season would be a failure to finish in 3rd just because of how good those two are, but it would be disappointing. Anything below that would be a failure. I think we are a legit top 10 team, but I think KU and Oklahoma are too.

Good luck to UNI as well.

I honestly couldn't care less about the Big 12 title as long as we make it to the Elite 8 or beyond. Honestly I think it'd be hilarious if KU won the in-season title and we won the tournament again. God does it make their fans so damn bitter.

I can't logically have realistic expectations. I'm either going to set the bar too high or too low. I don't think we'll be a top 10 team at the start of the season, but there is a very good chance to be one mid season - the end. I think our freshman will have to contribute to have any chance of competing for conference title or high NCAA seed. It's seems like we have the pieces but some big shoes to fill that are unknowns at this point.

Second in B12.
Another KC tourney sweep.
Round of eight in NCAA.

Three strong players who always come to play.
Need three more to play better as a team this year: Naz, Hallice, Matt, Deonte, Nader. Also the young players are unknowns so far.

I'd be very happy with finishing 2nd in the league, staying in the top 10-15 most of the year, and going to the Sweet 16.

Anything more than that would be gravy for me.

I think we can be a top 3 team in the Big XII. That should lock us up for a trip to the dance. Once at NCAA I think we have the talent to be a Sweet 16 team. If this new coach can keep the O firing and get even a little bit better on D I think we could be a Elite 8 team. Farmin is correct, the too many things can happy during the tourney.

I'm not really expecting a lot of improvement over last season. I'm hopeful they can perform better defensively under Prohm, but don't really have much to back that up with. I'm thinking something like 23-9, 12-6 prior to the tournament. I'll be disappointed with anything less than the Sweet 16.

My expectation is Sweet 16 or better finish in NCAA tournament. If we don't get there, I would be pretty disappointed - unless we won the Big XII regular season title. This is our chance to make a run. It's time to make it happen because we'll likely take a big step back after this year.

I'd be satisfied with a Top 3 seed and a Sweet 16. We absolutely have to make the second weekend after last season's disappointment.

This is Prohm's challenge. We're likely to be a Top 4 seed for the third year in a row after a couple 9/10 seasons. I'm confident he can maintain that 8/9/10 status, but will there be seasons of 2/3/4 mixed in?

I hate putting tournament expectations on a team because there's so much luck involved in a single elimination tournament, but I feel like this team needs at least a sweet 16 run to make the season a success.

So, if that was our 1 and only victory, you'd be happy????

Sure, I like to beat Iowa, but it's a non-con game and during a year we should be in the tourney just doesn't mean that much.

The Iowa game is also in December, and it's hard to find a game pre-January that really matters unless a team is on the bubble in February/March.

I think they'll have a similar regular season to the last two, i.e. 22-23 wins, and I'd be happy with a win or two in the tourney. Maybe a couple more wins if there's more toughness. There was plenty of late, close wins last year and plays in crunch time, but there were a few losses that really felt like the team couldn't recover mentally from the opponent coming right at them, or a weird call or something.

I'd really like to see ISU with a close lead late in the game, and feel fairly confident watching that they'll close out.
