It’s not really cherry picking when it is the last two years and reflects the current situation.
And if you are going to play the “what happens when Campbell leaves” game you have to do that with everyone outside the blue bloods. Yes there are teams that will attract better coaches, but it’s still hard to identify and retain the right coach for a vast majority of programs.
Most reports always talk about a 5 year span. You might be able to push it to 10 to be what a GoR could be but most media rights are now 5-7 years so 5 seems to be most relevant. The report people link is that awful one from Miller who uses 15-19 for seasons and marks any data he can’t find as a 0. If you are using 5 years then it should be 17-21 (makes a big difference for us) and at least put a bare minimum of 200-300k for unfound data.
From that Athletic article about the Big 12 targeting six Pac-12 schools - “A source at one of the target schools noted that many Pac-12 fans don’t travel well, and the strong fan bases in the Big 12 are another factor that make the conference intriguing. The idea of having Iowa State, BYU or Kansas State fans visit more regularly than several current Pac-12 schools could be appealing.”

I was just told by a Big10 **** in this very thread that attendance doesn't matter!
Shocking. It’s crazy that any school outside of the B1G or SEC even attempts to play football.
this is why the Big 12 has always been the #3 conference...strong fan bases and consistent eyeballs on the tele, despite the constant misdirection by ESPN to tell another story. Take away the bell cows (OUT in the Big 12, USC/UCLC in the Pac 12, and Clem/FSU in the ACC) and the difference between the three becomes even more obvious. The Big 12 needs to hammer this home and bring the teams into the conference that can cement the third conference. Yes, it will be significantly less then the BIG and SEC...but it will be significantly higher than anything else. The media rights will be there, especially if there are only 4 (potentially 3 if the ACC cracks) games in town for the providers.
If UW, or imagine Oregon being poached by the Big 12. Mandel will lose it. Now I think Oregon ends up in the Big 10, but if they went to the Big 12, watching Mandel and the like spin their way out of that would be entertaining.

But it is cherry picking. If you were going to makes long term investment in something, you’d absolutely take historical performance into account, as well as try to understand the reasons for recent anomalous growth and the likelihood of that growth being sustained/chances if it reverting to historical values. And it isn’t me doing this. It’s others looking at us this way. Fortunately, we look good in this window of time, but if this were 5 years back, then we wouldn’t look so good. Not saying you’re doing it, per se, but my point is we have no business trashing any other school as having “nothing to offer”, because it’s been done to us, it’s reductionist, and it sucks to read.
I imagine at the next Athletic internal story agenda conference call, Mandel is going to go all Fran McCaffery on Olson.
They would have to start saying some of the intangibles about the Big12, they said didn't matter...matter now.
So that means, if there was a true "draft" so to say of schools into a new conference, ISU should be picked over those 4 big ten schools?
To be honest I thought the conference attendance had been dropping off the past few years, especially tech and Baylor it seemed like their stadiums were never full, and actually more empty than full, the past few seasons.
For us nonsubscribers, is there anything in The Athletic article that gives encouragement the Big 12 expansion into PAC 12 is actually going to occur?

Eh it's a lot of coach speak. The new commissioner is "super aggressive". Pac12 members are "not panicking". Arizona and Arizona State are most likely gone and have been eyeing an exit for a while.
