The PAC 10 was a fun league to follow. A historic league with long rivalries.

To see it bust apart and the top teams leave to the Big Ten is just a sad sad day for college athletics.

I understand and agree, but if the football wasn’t bringing in the revenue, those other programs wouldn’t exist beyond club sports. It’s a necessary evil in the world of capitalism.

It's an argument why we should break away FB and BB. FB and BB can still fund those sports, but they can play regionally.

It's really stupid for Iowa to send non revenue sports to LA and Seattle instead of just playing more games in their traditional footprint. Even if it was free and the plane's exhaust was lovely scented myst, it's just a pointless logistical exercise.

Same for B12 btw, it's dumb that our non revenue sports are going to Orlando and Arizona and Utah and West Virginia.

In my head I'm already assuming the B12 won't get those schools or be at the level of B1G/SEC so I'm all for the PAC explosion.
Then the B12 gets it pick and because of that the ACC might start calling.

Pac-12 best case scenario is sticking together here and then poaching from the Big 12.

That doesn't happen if the Big Ten isn't done; it only maybe happens if the B1G decides to stop.

And it's unclear to me right now which league would be poacher and which would be poachee in that scenario. We don't know what the money will look like. The Pac-12 would have superior academic pedigree that might attract KU. Maybe BYU would prefer it (but the California schools would need to get over them). I guess Texas Tech is a possibility. The Arizona schools and Colorado are Big 12 targets on the other hand.

I just think the nod to "potential members" in the Pac-12 statement is a suggestion that they are not going to shell up and stay at 10. One way or another they will change.

Last time in football? 2014. But only two since 2000, and both were tOSU.

But this is considered a SUPER conference? Okay.

Superconferences are defined by one thing. Money.

And these two will have it.

And with pay-for-play here, that'll matter even more as time goes on.

They aren’t right now. A lot of times you and I are on the same page on a lot of issues but I don’t understand the opinions that the b1g will be taking two other PAC teams. If that was the case, why wouldn’t they be involved In the current desertion? I find it difficult to believe the UCLA and USC ADs didn’t reach out to see if anybody else was interested.

This is coming when USC, UCLA, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Clemson, Florida State, and few a couple other schools like Nebraska or Wisconsin or Auburn end up breaking away from the NCAA itself to form a super league.

This is the most compelling case they end up dropping teams like Rutgers and Maryland. Not now, but sometime they will. The big dogs will get tired of the Vandys, the Rutgers', the Marylands. Eventually they'll tire of the Minnesota's, Purdues and Nebraska's too. It's a steamroller that isn't stopping soon.

If that happens, then all the teams that broke away will not play any non-conference games anymore. No more Florida vs. Central valley state games.

The Big 12 survived nibbling around the edges but these two leagues had to go scorched earth with the last two moves.

If they keep going we'll see if non alumni like regional minor league pro football.

Looks like they'll be down to 8 pretty quickly if the Washington - Oregon news is true.
