The day any conference boots a member institution because they're not deemed valuable enough in the world of media rights would be... interesting. I honestly don't ever see it happening.
I think it would have to be schools leaving to form an entirely new conference. Although there would still probably be some legal issues.
Yeah that would add a wrinkle, essentially dissolving both existing conferences, announcing plans to form a new conference, accepting applications to join from all former B12/P12 member schools, and choosing winners/losers from there.
I don't think anything really moves the needle much unless the ACC also gets involved.
I do think it's interesting if Big 10 doesn't want Washington and Oregon. And then I also question if the SEC really has a desire and need for Clemson and FSU already having SC and UF.
If legal, GOR, and current affiliations were no issue, the best chance to compete with the Big 10 and SEC for a power 3 conference probably looks something like these 20:

UNC
Oregon
Washington
Oklahoma St
Kansas
Iowa St
Arizona
ASU
Utah
BYU
Colorado
Texas Tech
Cal
Stanford
WVU
Pitt
Miami
Virginia Tech
But there's probably too many obstacles to get there.
I could see them telling Minnesota, Iowa, Purdue, Indiana etc....that they don't bring as much as USC or Oregon or whoever, so they need to take less money. That could happen someday.
I get what you're saying but this is only really true if they start axing the schools like Northwestern, Vanderbuilt, etc.
This is what I expect to happen in time with the B1G and SEC, and it may also involve leaving the NCAA entirely.
Rather than kick out any schools, the 24-32 most valuable from those two leagues just leave the rest behind.

Consulting firms generally ask what names you think are good and magically say one of those is great.
Possible. I have a hard time seeing it just because both conferences are going to be swimming in cash, both think they're more valuable than the other on their own, and they wouldn't have to wait for a move like this to kick the NCAA to the curb.
A firm would most likely whittle it down to 3 naming options, one that's clearly the best, one that's an acceptable alternative, and one throwaway option that's horrible by design just to get the shot callers to focus on the two good ones.
And then they'll likely choose the throwaway.
The SEC wanted Texas when they already had A&M.
The real truth is that ESPN wanted the brand name content that is Texas and Oklahoma, and they got them via the SEC.
If ESPN wants to lock up the content that is Clemson and FSU and/or Miami, they will try to get them via the SEC as well. ESPN is consolidating all their best product into the SEC, as best they can.
