NFL: Ray Lewis a Cowboy?

Word around the NFL is that the Dallas Cowboys are very interested in obtaining Baltimore Ravens inside linebacker Ray Lewis if he becomes a free agent. The speculation is that the Cowboys are willing to give Lewis a three-year deal worth between $27 and $30 million, with $25 million guaranteed.

IF there is any validity to this...it would seem based on the speculated contract size, Jerry is hedging 2010 will be an uncapped year.

Lots of cash to give for a guy of that age.
 
Ray Lewis is/was dominant...I never have rooted for him but judged solely on his on-field abilities...he is/was incredible! But...he does seem to have a big ego which begs the question "how on earth could the Cowboy's locker room have any room left with the egos they have on that team already"???
 
It's an interesting idea. He seemed to have been declining a bit, but he did have a really nice year. I would assume Jerry is looking for him more as someone to be a uniting vocal leader rather than the divisive one they have now.

They're moving into a new stadium. Probably has a bigger locker room.:biglaugh:
 
I love Ray I think he is a great player, but I have to wonder if this is just Jerry giving too much for a past their prime superstar. First it was Deion, then TO, then Roy Williams(at least he is still young). He should take a lesson from the way Jimmy built the Super Bowl winning dynasty of the early 90's. Giving up Herschel and utilizing draft picks to build a team instead of giving them away for modern day Herschel types.

Just my opinion. What do you think?

The early 90's was a different era. Salary cap didn't come into effect until 1994.

He may have held on to Deion and now TO for too long, but I don't think either were past their prime when they started with the Cowboys.
 
I do not like Ray Lewis, at all. But if I had to choose one LB to be on my team from strictly an on the field aspect it would be him. The guy is a leader no doubt, not many people can lead a defense like him.

I agree, but I think to solidify your case you need to include Drew Bledsoe and Eddie George in the list.

Remember to take into account the emergence of pro-bowler Terrell Suggs, as well as Lewis' injuries, and that would account for the decrease in Lewis' numbers.


Suggs:
2007: 80 tackles in 16 games
2006: 65 tackles in 16 games
2005: 69 tackles in 16 games
2004: 60 tackles in 16 games
2003: 27 tackles in 16 games

I'm not sure Ray Lewis would be making a great career move by moving to Dallas. I don't think he's their answer, but he'll be built up to be...then loaded on when they stink again, then he'll become depressed and retire early wishing he would have ended his career a Raven. Dallas should save their money on this one and get rid of T.O. That may be their answer.
 
I agree, I see Lewis regretting the fact that he wouldn't retire a Raven. Then he would have to sign a one day contract in order to retire with his team. Those are always pathetic!
