Van Ness is #3 of Flo 2021 big board and Rathjen is #21
Rathjen is #7 at 126 and a sophomore from Ankeny and wrestles for Sebolt
Van Ness is #2 at 132 and a sophomore.

Note that Van Ness does not have a lot of freestyle experience according to Flo
Sounds like a nice win. Does Rathjen come up and train with the Cyclone RTC? Sorry if that's an ignorant questions, I just wanted to get a feeling if we were actively recruiting him.

He is with Sebolt and I think they have practices in Ames. Not sure if he also trains with CRTC.

I think we are actively recruiting him. Not sure why we wouldn't be

Thought as much but with money so tight in the sport you pretty much get to hone in on one high level target at a weight every few years. The good guys that would be great to have on the roster and may prove all the experts wrong can typically be offered a lot more at smaller wrestling schools. It makes the sport interesting when I see finalists from American, Wyoming. SDSU, and guys like Marstellar at LH whipping up on Marinelli. But it also makes these situations difficult to predict without inside info.

Does anyone know if we're actively recruiting Drake Ayala as well? There are a lot of special lightweights in Iowa in the next few years.

Rathjen’s are huge Hawkeye fans also.

And I know we have/had interest in Ayala

Agree with your point but Marstellar was a blue Chip super recruit. Ended up there due to other issues while at Okie State. Rathjen, who lost in the next round, might be the type of kid you allude to.
