How is it that this team forgets "what got them there" when they hit the road? The offense as a mess with players trying to be solo stars and the defense forgot there was a three point line to defend. The team we saw last night and in other road games this season was a shadow of what we saw at home last week. So far definitely a split personality squad.

It's college basketball, every team is a split personality home vs away

BYU just completely outplayed us. Their cutting and passing was impressive. We rely and getting TO's and points off of TO's and they handled our pressure very well. Our offense gets a little stale at times and if we can't drive and dish we are kind of stuck. Hopefully our guys got a copy of their playbook and see's how to cut the basket it better. Plus they just have great shooters, something we really have lacked since Monte and crew finished their playing days.

No…they don’t. The good ones play their game home and away. The average and bad are the inconsistent ones.
Guy... There's been 7 road wins out of 25 games in the Big 12. Two were against the worst team in the Big 12 (Okie St.). Must be a lot of average and bad teams in the Big 12.

The BYU vs. Houston games were about as drastic a difference in one week as a team could be. I get that ISU didn't light up the scoreboard vs. Houston, but the ball movement and body movement was excellent considering the defense. Last night was just pure crap offensively.

King's foul trouble was a big problem with the offense. I just don't think in 2024 in the Big 12 playing a guy like Watson right now outside of going offense/defense by possession at the end of a half is going to work. Love the energy and athleticism, and hopefully that 3 will kickstart him. But this isn't 1990s Big East basketball. You can't run a bunch of offensive possessions with a guy that won't shoot, won't dribble, won't look anywhere to pass except to the guy coming around on the weave. Hell, Gilbert hit him with what should've been a good pass and bucket and he wasn't looking for the ball and it ended up being a turnover.

Hitting threes with BYU's collective skillset makes the cuts easier.

I don't think the threes were the problem last night - they made 13, which is right on their season average, and they took ~60% of their shots from deep. We can live with that - IF we protect the rim and don't allow easy points in the lane and at the line. But we didn't, the backdoor cuts and drives killed us.

My take is that we slightly adjusted our defensive strategy to extend to the 3-pt line better and it opened up the lane. It also contributed to us being a step slow most of the night (except a 10 minute stretch in the first half), which leads to us not getting TOs and fouling too much.

By far the worst defensive output of the season for us (previous worse was DePaul)

Yep, they were 14-22 from two and 20-24 from the line. Both are very unusual for our defense, and that was the difference in the game.

My buddy who does a lot of analytics for sports betting says home ISU would beat road ISU by 14.7 points. That's how drastically different they are. At home they're like 10 offensive efficiency, top 50 rebounding, 2nd in TOs forced/possession, 3rd def efficiency.

So, essentially ISU needs to defend homecourt and win every home game, and some how steal a couple on the road. If they can't then 9-9 could be the result. They have a tough road schedule though. Their "easiest" road game might be Texas, UCF or Cincy.

Agree, hate to pick on the guy, but time is really starting to tick now for Watson to be anything more than an end of the bench guy at this level. Hate to see players go but in this era of college hoops, it would not or at least should not be difficult to find someone who could be more productive with his opportunities.
