Just rewatching our game from last year, got me thinking:

What are your expectations on offense with Mangino as OC?

Have you settled on a QB?

Bundgage (sp?) gonna be your best WR?

Defensively, what are your expectations? Is George still playing? At LB?

Will you beat Iowa this year?

1 score a lot
2 they are naming the QB aug. 16
3 probs
4 sadly George is gone, D is going to be a big question mark
5 don't see why not

If we average over 30 pts a game next year, I'll consider hiring Mangino a success.

Of course the defense will probably give up 35+.

1. It will be a big upgrade from our previous o-coordinator. If we can stay relatively healthy, I expect our offense to be the best it's been in a long time.

2. Nothing official, but it looks like Grant Rohach will be the starter. He started the last few games of last year as a redshirt freshman.

3. Bundrage should be the best receiver, but there are other guys who will be good as well. D'Vario Montgomery is a transfer from USF; he was a 4 star out of HS with an impressive offer list and is 6'5. True freshman Allen Lazard has a lot of expectations on him, but not necessarily for this year since there is other talent at the WR position; like Montgomery he is also a 4 star who is 6'5. Jarvis West will most likely play the slot receiver position which is perfect for him since he is 5'7.

4. Defense is not expected to be good. We tried to fill some gaps w/ JUCO players so we'll see how they perform, but I don't have high hopes for our defense.

5. Some really bad Iowa State teams have beat Iowa in the past. I don't expect we will this year, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if we did.

The offense should do a lot better with Mangino as OC since he bases his offenses around quarterback capabilities and will do some new things with many players.

If Grant Rohach builds off of the end of the season from last year and Mangino puts him in situations he can be successful in he should be one of the better quarterbacks we've had in a while.

As for the best WR it could be Bibbs because I think he has been trying more of a wide out position and he's great about making the catch first but Bundrage could certainly lead the WR core as well if he runs after he gets the ball.

Defense could be rough to start since George graduated and we lost two d-linemen but the juco players that we picked up can certainly provide some more experience and towards the end of the season*fingers crossed for no injuries* it should be much more experienced. Luke Knott should be getting pretty good at LB too.

As for the Iowa game...it could be really good or ugly. That will probably be decided on 3rd down conversions and our defense stopping the Iowa O via turnovers. It'll be a close game

There was a video i found deep in the interwebs from june that makes me think richardson starts. We are going to be much more competitive this year i assure; its funny i hear these old guys telling me they got inside info that we are going to be worse. Haha there is no inside info to have; i can assure you the coaches dont even know what they have. This offense will be the best offense isu has had in 12 years and richardson will be at the helm. That is my fearless prediction. Whether we get to 6 wins who knows; will depend on 10 plays to swing it either way. Our offense was just so sad last year so so sad; we are not getting the same exhausting coaching cliches and taking that and making assumption based on those. This is straight from players; we are stronger they say; we are together they say; better team chemistry from last year; most starters back since 2009; deepest offensive line in a decade; bast running back tandem in a decade; best wr core in a decade. Im just excited for some cyclone magic; i know we are going to see some.

1. Better than last year but still not great.

2. Probably Rohach, I prefer Richardson.

3. Bundrage will probalby lead team in yards from wide out, but Bibbs will be the better pass catcher and Lazard is probably the most talented yet unproven of the bunch.

4. George went to the NFL and the rest of the defense is made up of unproven JUCO's as far as I've heard.

5. Have a good feeling about the Iowa game even though most people will not.

1. I think our offense will be the best we have had in years. We have a proven OC and we return a starter at all 11 spots. If our QB plays well, we could score a bunch of points.

2. Sure sounds like it is Rohach's job, if he takes it.

3. I think Bundrage is set to have a huge year. I think Mangino will spread the ball around and I think we will see more big plays out of Bundrage as a result. Our receivers/TEs should be really good this year.

4. Defense is a question mark. We need to score a lot of points and force the opposing teams to play from behind. If we can do that, it will take pressure off the defense and hopefully they can make enough plays to win games.

5. I think we beat Iowa this year. If we can score early and often, Iowa will struggle to keep up.

1. I expect our offense to score more then USA soccer.
2. Maybe
3. Maybe
4. I expect our defense to give up more points than Brazil did against Germany.
5. Maybe.

Similar to the last bazillion years of ISU FB, I expect the offense to under perform and the defense to over perform. Every single year, we think the offense will be light years better and it never is. Proof is in the pudding and until I see something different, I'm expecting the same. Sketchy FG kicking is a solid bet as well.

Mangino will come out of the gate swinging. He wants to be a head coach next year. No we have 4 real good ones. Maybe a surprise in store. WR, we are loaded. It will be difficult to sort it out. D we will be better than people expect. Iowa, you bet they can no way keep up with our offense.

Really hoping our offense will average 30+ points a game with Mangino. That's probably an unfair expectation, but the guy's good.

Rohach is probably the starter, but who the heck knows.

Bundrage, Bibbs, West, Montgomery, or Lazard could all step up as the best receiver.

I expect the defense to be better, but still not anything spectacular. Overall linebackers will be better despite losing George. Defensive ends should be fine, and may be the best Rhoads has had by middle of the season, but the interior defensive line is a concern. Despite some youth in the secondary, teams will beat Iowa State through the running game.

Yes, the Iowa game will be a win in a tight game.

I think if Mangino can average >30 PPG this season we should give HIM a lifetime contract, and name it "Mangino Field at Jack Trice Stadium" :twitcy:

Link?

Paul Rhoads has his first 0 coordinator that does NOT try to fit square pegs into round holes. Barring a rash of injuries, the offense has to be better. The defense has so many new faces that it is anyone's guess. Three games into the season you will receive more accurate answers to your questions.

In keeping with the Old Man's philosophy, I guess that would be "Mangino Family Field at Jack Trice Stadium". Of course, if Italian heritage is in play here, it adds additional meaning to the words Family and Contract. But I am liking the Mangino Mafia theme!
