On a serious side, so what happens if we feed and water everyone in Africa? They live longer, have more children, overpopulation, starve, etc. If anything we need to educate not just give hand outs.

Who knows how many marathon champions have died way too early Call me insensitive but I agree with the education and not hand outs theory.

I guess I didn't get the message of handouts vs. education in the video. I just thought it was powerful and was a good reminder of how sheltered we are. Maybe it's just me. Anyway, I guess I'll go watch the game on my 50" TV and relax on my Lazyboy.

I agree. Most of us are very lucky to be born in America, which makes life pretty easy.

It definitely puts things in perspective, and we could all do/give more to those that are less fortunate.

With that said, I firmly believe the best way to bring prosperity to those areas, is to facilitate American-style capitalism. One thing that I've been donating to recently is a couple of the micro-finance organizations.

By allowing people to create, be productive and consume as they wish, it elevates the standard of living for most of a culture/region/country's people.

Case in point, the poor people in the US (by and large) live a fairly decent lifestyle. Obviously there will always be those that live in destitution in the world, but American-style capitalism tends to do the best job of raising all standards of living.
