Props for Hawkeye basketball from ESPN

I almost feel bad for Iowa BBall. There is the possibility they could be REALLY bad, and while I don't like the Hawks, I don't really want them to be pathetic.

Not me. I hope they are pathetic for a long time. Only helps Iowa State.

In-state recruiting. Sounds like there are several potentially good recruits in upcoming classes. If Iowa sucks, less likely they will be a factor in the recruitment. Might not be a huge deal, but everything helps.

But bottom line, I will never feel sorry for Hawkeye failure in ANY sport.

Knowing full well that I'll be crucified for this, I am in a serious relationship with an Iowa grad. I told her in the beginning that my love for the state of Iowa would allow me to pull for the Hawks when they're not playing the Cyclones. She does the same for Iowa State. It's the only way to keep the relationship civil.

However, she caught me cheering for OSU the other night and accused me on breaching the terms of our "arrangment". I explained to her that I like to see Iowa win, just not too much.

That's kind of how I feel about their basketball team right now. If it were Alford, it would be hard to do. Lick is kind of hard for me to hate. However, with some of the young basketball talent in the state of Iowa right now, I have no problem with Iowa being out of the recruiting mix for a few years while Mac rebuilds the program.

What are you talking about? Any good recruit from the state of Iowa will be snapped up by Roy Williams, so there wont be any competition between the two in the first place. :biglaugh: j/k

Believe it or not, these are both correct:

Roy Williams will get all the elite prospects from the state for North Carolina.

Greg McDermott will get all the solid but not elite D1 prospects from the state for ISU.

And Todd Lackluster will get all the mid-major Horizon League prospects from the state for Iowa.

Am I crazy? Or does this post NOT bash Iowa State... I think this is a first Monty... Too bad you can't read me...

Iowa won't score many points but they wont need to. They will hold their apponents to 55-60 points a game. They will be better than everyone thinks. They will be similar to the IA football team. No flash but wins keep comming.

Do you think they'll start 9-1 like the FB team?

I think you're overestimating when you say, "wins keep comming", because they will be few and far between come Big 11 season. I think they win 13-14 games at the most this year.

ICE? Pressure their guards and Iowa may not get the ball past mid court - pressure in their face and we won't need to worry about how our big guys are doing!

You know, I've said this before, but while being positive about ISU bball is certainly understandable, remember... ISU hasn't had a winning season in 4 years, and at one point was losing by 30 points to Iowa last year.

And it's not like ISU is without embarrassing losses... SDSU?

I'd much rather both teams in the state return to the solid programs they were in the 90s. Basketball was SO much more fun when both teams had something to play for than it is now. Getting Hilton and Carver back to what they once were is nothing but great news for the state, and basketball fans in general.

You left out the part where UNI is going to start getting in-state players over Iowa.

That's one of the biggest differences I think we'll see with this year's ISU team. We'll win the games we're supposed to win. Had we done that last year, we would have probably made the NIT and called it a decent year.

I just don't see that in Iowa this year. They are where we were a couple of years ago...little experience and little athleticism; too many defections.
